This is the most friendly and comfortable restaurant in Covent Garden.. The staff are wonderful and very attentive .. Did not feel rushed or hurried.. Food great value for money.. Fresh and tasty.. Surroundings are cosy and great for people watching.. Try it.. You will not be disappointed… Wish I could have given it a 10..
First impression, cozy, warm, soft light and relaxing. We opted to share the British cold cuts followed by Pork belly and Salmon salad. The cold cuts platter was great and same for the salmon salad. However, the pork belly did not met the expectation and it revealed to be hard, chewy and the skin beside the fact that was crunchy showed the same. Our waitress changed trough out the dinner and have the impression that we were their last table. We had to ask twice for the beverage order. Not the right lunch selection!
While in London on holiday we made a couple of visiting to Covent Garden, and on both occasions we visited the Crusting Pipe for wine and snacks. On our arrival day we wandered from South Kensington to Covent Garden, so by the time we reach CG we were ready for a glass of wine and a snack.Crusting Pipe is located in an open air, below ground level, patio area with an indoor dining room as well. The outdoor area has entertainment provided by drop in entertainers playing violins to singing opera. This entertainment is not provided by The Crusting Pipe, but their stage adjoins the outdoor seating area. After each performance the hat is passed for tips/donations to the entertainer.Wine prices are reasonable with a good variety and they have a nice, but limited menu. We had the Bread basket with olives, and variety of the British Cheeses on both visits. The cheeses are not listed so you have to rely on the wait staff to tell you the choices of the day.We enjoyed the visit so much that we came back again 3 days later with friends. I only have one complaint; it was about the wine or cheese, but the service. The service was slow on the second visit as it was more crowded that the first visit. However we had the same issue on both visits. On Thursday we paid in cash and the waiter returned to the table and said that I hadnt given him enough money. He said I had given him 40 for a 49 tap, so I gave him another 20 note and left a 5 tip. I had been a long day after the overnight flight to London from Houston; I was tired and quite possibly made the mistake. However on Sunday we were there with 2 other couples and the exact same thing happened again!! I gave the waiter 140 in cash for a 126 tab. A completely different waiter used the same scam; he came back and said that I had only given him 120 for the 126, this time I called him out and he took me to the till and showed me that there were only 6 20 notes in the drawer. I had stopped at an ATM machine earlier in the day and it gave me brand new crisp 20 notes, and he showed me there were only 6 of the crisp notes in the drawer once again. I just accepted it and gave him another 20 and didnt leave a tip this time. Sad ending to a nice afternoon of wine and cheese at Crusting Pipe.If you go, either count out the cash to the waiter, or pay by credit card.
For the price of a fairly standard London pub dinner you can escape the hustle and bustle of the touristy Covent Garden at this central, but secluded bistro pub in the heart of the square. Mains don’t come in hearty portions and you may need to order a side, but the quality is that slight cut above any local taverns. Ideal for that right balance between settling for the nearest average gastro pub and a special occasion, right in the centre of town. londoncurryblog.com
2006 Great/2013 Very disappointing!!. We had very special 2006 memories of the food, ambiance and music in the courtyard outside the restaurant. October 2013, we were sadly disappointed. This restaurant would be good enough for a glass of wine in the courtyard outside so that you may listen to the wonderful music which is provided in the market. Otherwise.. the menu is uninspiring. The drinks and food seem designed to arrive together (one too slow and the other too fast – tomato cheese tart cold in centre). The location and turnover of tourists would seem to guarantee this restaurant business. It is too bad that it seems have declined from a memorable restaurant to one that fails to meet the mark. Give this one a skip, unless you wish a beer or some wine. It isn’t work the price.
Hearty food, spectacular live music in the court yard, and a great wine list! Great to go before a show – but service can be slow so be sure to leave a good amount of time!
Don’t have the afternoon tea. It is the worst in London.Sandwiches made from dry bread and cut with a dull knife. Scones are just supermarket bought and microwaved. The cream for the scones tastes like chemicals and plastic. The jam is basic cheapest jam.The desserts are small and microwaved from frozen. For 32 for two people we received only one of each of the 4 desserts and they were smaller than. 2p coin.Absolute con. I feel stupid for trying such a terrible tourist trap
