Awesome small intimate and great menu for foodies. I had ceviche which was awesome , octopus and lamb. All top notch. Wine list also great. The atmosphere is just awesome
Tiny place with absolutely divine food – we tried quite a few of the dishes on the menu and each was better the next. Highly recommended: the fresh oysters, goats cheese croquettes, lamb.
Duende is a cozy (small) Spanish inspired tapas place in Covent Garden. The room is quite dark and the background music filled with rap instrumentals. About half the seats are dedicated to bar seating. A very cool vibe.I had the entire menu (minus oysters which they were out of) that was listed that day of about 11 items. I would happily order any of them again.Pacharan Marinated Salmon Rulada (7/10) – Cured salmon rolled to encase crispy sweet potatoes and served alongside aioli. Wonderful bite. The wasabi and red onion cut through the richness of the fish and aioli very well.Semi-Cured Galician Beef Filet (8/10) – A riff on a beef carpaccio. The beef was given really powerful flavors to work alongside it (pickled mushrooms, hazelnuts, truffle vinaigrette, but the beef somehow managed to be the strongest tasting thing on the plate. The beef itself tasted very similar to extremely high quality ham. Best raw beef preparation I’ve had in recent memory.Smoked Sardine Bocadillos (7/10) – Simple and really tasty. Smoke works well with a fish as oily as sardine. Could eat these by the boatload.Galacian Seaweed Salad – Similar to a sushi roll in appearance. A salad of a wakame like seaweed encased in avacado and served with piquillo sauce. Somehow refreshing despite being both really fatty and somewhat spicy.Poached Duck Egg (5/10) – Possibly the weakest course for me. Very popular combination of ingredients and flavors here with a poached duck egg, potato puree, and some truffle. It needed a bit of salt is all.Aubergine & Goat’s Cheese Croquetas (7/10) – As opposed to the last dish these were extremely adequately salted. The interior was on the edge of liquidity and just how I like my croquetas. Perfectly fried and not at all greasy.Crispy Tiger Prawns (8/10) – These guys are really good at frying things. Perfectly done prawns with a really unique style of breading / crusting them. That and the insane forwardness of citrus that popped in your mouth made these a huge standout from your every day fried prawns.Foie Gras Stuffed Quail (8/10) – Insanely decadent. Let’s take this relatively lean bird and stuff him with this gorged duck liver, then wrap him in some fatty pork bits. The sweet demi glace worked well to somewhat balance it, but this was very salty and likely not for everyone (though it suited me just fine.) Again, perfectly fried.Lamb Chops (8/10) – Just two perfectly pink lamb chops with a tarragon aioli. Not a speck of greyness on the interior of this piece of meat. Simple and amazing.Turron de Gijona Ice Cream Sandwiches (8/10) – A well prepared biscuit, and really tasty ice cream. They’ve also managed to serve it at the perfect temperature as well. Totally solidified while not hurting your brain when you go in for a bite.Dulce de Leche & Sherry Lees Mousse (6/10) – Think of a cannoli but instead of a pastry, the mousse is encased by a gossamer thin candy. I thought the flavors worked well, but after a few bites I was left with hard candy remnants finding spots to bunch up in my mouth. Made eating the entire thing less pleasant than it could have been.Torrijas (7/10) – Bread and butter pudding with passion fruit sorbet. The passion fruit here was insanely assertive and subsequently the best part of the dessert. I think they could manage to make the pudding itself a bit sweeter because of this.No complaints here. Super friendly staff, concentrated menu and food, and good drinks. This place will soon be packed. The nearby Barrafinas will be facing some really stiff competition. instagram.com
