An underground bar with spacious set up and woody decor. I tried a Long Island which was good. The music was fine and the overall atmosphere was nice. Nothing special though.
Foundation Bar doesnt take themselves seriously its all a bit of quirky fun, and tongue in cheek drink names. The underground bar is sure cavernous with another hidden block of private rooms and dance floor. The happy hour Monday with 50% off food and drink, Thursday 2-4-1 cocktails and great atmosphere with banging tunes is a warrant for me to comeback again. Now have you ever thought of drinking a cocktail with your face on it? The #selfie drink is served with a Polaroid photo of yourself and the drink itself is a sweet alcoholic raspberry and white chocolate milkshake. We made sure we made room for a dessert to share and the strawberry cheesecake sundae is not to be skipped. With their own take on the classic, the sundae was absolutely to die for. thefoodconnoisseur.co.uk
Terrible service, tried to overcharge, plus service included. We came after work on Tues 27 Jan for a few drinks and dinner because of the 50% off deal. The waitress was exceedingly slow and when she brought our meals we asked for ketchup and mayo which she said she would bring and never did. A drink was dropped (by another customer) next to our table which took ages to clean up and was a hazard. When we got the bill there were three extra cocktails on it (quite a lot considering the price of the drinks in there) and the waitress was very rude when we told her of her ‘error’. Finally the 10% service charge was already added and non-optional. Considering the 50% off deal, the 10% was taken before the bill was halved, giving our surly and slow waitress 20% of the final bill. Will not be returning.04 Feb, 2015Terrible service, tried to overcharge, plus service included. We came after work for a few drinks and dinner because of the 50% off deal. So you’re on a date and you’re wandering around Central London, deciding on where next to go after that meal or film or other romantic activity you probably did.Well if your potential suitor isn’t cutting it and you’re now deeply regretting that doubtful right-swipe on Tinder, then perhaps Foundation is the place for you – especially if your date doesn’t seem to share your sentiments. If you come straight after dinner then your entry before 9pm is free, otherwise you’ll have to pay a fiver. Once inside you’ll go downstairs to the main bar room. Don’t have high hopes for getting a table as most of them will be reserved with big group bookings, particularly on a weekend. Of course, the booth seating around the table is only wide enough to seat around 6 slim guests so there’ll be plenty of people standing around the tables blocking the passages.Oh well! Perfect incentive for you to hit the bar. Unfortunately happy hour ended at 7pm (when you probably most needed a drink), so now the cocktails are double the price – around 10. Give an expectant look at your date and they’ll have little choice but to buy you something to ease the pain. The cocktails here aren’t bad – the cherry one is nice for example and there are a few which come in quirky teapots. However while the cocktails are worth it during happy hour, they’re nothing special now that it’s expired! (Much like your date).Nevermind, the music in Foundation is so ear-blastingly loud that no matter how boring or annoying your date is to talk to, you won’t be able to hear a thing! Phew!Once it’s time to pop to the toilet, you’ll discover a whole other room by the toilets that you didn’t realise existed. There’s actually a dancefloor as well! Though, by dancefloor what I really mean is another room with equally loud music and even more overcrowded. This is a great area to conveniently lose your date in the mass of people. There’s limited phone reception in this basement as well, so you can dodge those texts or phone calls about your whereabouts.Sneak out for a smoking break or just a great escape-style runaway. Your stamp will have probably rubbed off so there are low chances of getting back in without paying another entry fee in any case. And if your date asks the next day… just blame it on the alcohol 😉
Your in central, your meeting friends and you want somewhere decent for a cheap drink. This place has a great happy hour, all drinks are 50% off including bottles of champagne. There is a huge list of cocktails, they try to be quirky by serving them in teapots etc but the drinks just aren’t amazing quality. It’s fine in happy hour as they are cheap but when your paying 8-9 for a beverage you expect a certain quality, there are no beers on draft either. The place has very funky decor, with different themed areas. Good for happy hour but I wouldn’t stick around…
I would necessarily fully agree with Marie Eno on the Foundation. It is overrated for sure and it is completely impossible to have a discussion with friends. The music is very loud. However if you have a boring friend and you want an excuse not to talk too much this can be very useful. I went there with friends that like to dance and we had great fun and left the place at 11pm feeling like we had been out all night. It can be a good alternative if you want to go out during the week and feel fresh the next day.
