Delicious, delicious orange duck. Attentive and friendly service. Cosy, romantic ambiance. The pot au chocolate dessert is amazing! Not a lot of gluten free entrees but most of the mains are gluten free. Our waiter was able to tell us about all the gluten free options.
I adore this restaurant. Admittedly, I am rather biased as it holds many happy memories for me. My ex-boyfriend and I enjoyed some lovely meals here. It’s a classic French restaurant, complete with checked tablecloths, onion soup and sexy accents. The food is simple yet full of flavour – cassoulet, moules frites, bouef bourguignon – quintessential Gallic dishes. Naturally they have an impressive wine list as well. The restaurant itself is gorgeous. There is a tiny space at street level, but you can also descend into the candlelit cellar for a romantic meal a deux. It is incredibly reasonably priced, especially considering the location and the quality of the food. Le Garrick is almost a London institution, perfect for theatre dining or a romantic night out. thedetermineddiner.com
Le Garrick has a pleasant ambience which reminds me of the sort of inexpensive bistro that constituted a treat in my student days. Slightly ditzy staff, slightly stale bread (which we had to ask for), passable pt de campagne served with two of the smallest cornichons I have ever seen, bourguignon that repeated on me for an hour later. Despite these little niggles I can’t shake the feeling that Le Garrick is the sort of place which could conceivably provide the setting for a truly epic evening – I’ll be back to try and set one up.
I had high expectations for this restaurant after reading few of the reviews. Yes, the place is very cosy and romantic with candle on most of tables but the food is nothing special. I had onion soup, escargot, cassoulet and lemon tart. The tart is really nice with thin crust and burnt top. The onion soup was ok but they didn’t toast the cheese on the bread, instead they just put the grated cheese on top. The beans in the cassoulet was overly salty although the meat were tasty. Service was also not that great as we have to ask twice to get the bread to go with our starter.
I absolutely love this cosy French restaurant! The food was so delicious and the service was amazing. The waiters were all super friendly and while most of the tables are situated downstairs, I didn’t feel claustrophobic at all. The decor gives of a cosy and rustic feel.Definitely recommend this place for a romantic dinner or just if you’re craving superb French food!
I have been dying to dine at Le Garrick for a long while now and I am glad that I have finally made it. Le Garrick is a family run French Brasserie restaurant owned by Brendon for 25 years before handing down his heart and soul to Charles and Dominika. Le Garrick serves classic and regional dishes from southwest of France in a low lit brasserie; the French restaurant is based in the heart of Covent Garden, London. Upon arrival; I immediately felt the warmth from the staff as they welcomed us at the door. As we made our way down the spiral staircase we were guided to our sweet table under the exposed brick arch with a welcoming drink of prosecco (with grenadine and strawberries, yuuumm). The room was low lit so I was in the mood to enjoy my evening with my fabulous colleague and friend for a meal to remember! The menu looked all too delicious so I asked the lovely lady who was serving us to recommend what we should have. Are you ready for this? Here are her recommendations throughout the whole evening and I couldnt be more satisfied from the French expert herself:Cassolette de calamar la plancha au piment despelette: The calamari dish was all about the sauce! Pan-seared calamari basque style with a touch of coriander, chilli and ginger. Well when I say a touch’; its actually really flavoursome; you get a good kick off that chilli and ginger. Again, I dived into the sauce and soaked it up with bread as I waited for the next anticipated and final dish from the (Les Entres) starters menu.Escargots de Bourgogne 6 burgundy Snails cooked in garlic & parsley butter. This dish is pretty special; a homemade recipe from Le Garrick granny herself; probably the best snails Ive ever had! Again; its something about their sauce thats creating French magic for me.The starters were delightful and we were so ready to tuck into our main. Again, there were too many mouthwatering dishes to choose from; so our saviour French lady who recommended the starters picked out the best and popular dishes in the Les Plats section.Faux filet sauce au poivre ou barnaise: 8 oz chargrilled rare breed rib eye steak served with fries and barnaise sauce. We had our steak medium rare and I just had to take a picture of the meat..this is what I call medium rare! It was deliciously juicy and succulent and everything you would hope for in a rib eye steak. The portion was huge so we decided to split the dish between us so we can sample our second main dish as well.Confit de Canard et ses haricots verts: Classic honey glazed duck confit served with minted French green beans. Being Chinese, I enjoy my duck whatever the ocassion and the crispy skin on that beautiful duck confityou know its going to be a good one when you tap that knife on that crispy skin. The duck was tender; packed full of flavours with that sweet honey glaze and balanced with the French crunchy green beans. We also ordered a side of wiltered spinach; cooked with a touch of garlic and butter.Last but not least; we have reserved our tummy for some desserts; theres no way we were going home without some sweet delights after a giant meal for two girls! To finish both of us off; we ordered the Crme brule and Fondant au chocolat; a warm chocolate fondant served with vanilla ice-cream. Both of these desserts were to die for and that caramel shell was literally so glossy like glass; it had a good cruncha Crme brule crunch. Out of the two desserts I have to say that the warm chocolate fondant did it for me; I am a massive sucker for chocolate and I was completely guilty when finishing off the whole plate. My verdict? I will for sure come back again; my friend literally died and went to French heaven whilst I grew out a food baby! The team in Le Garrick were so friendly; we threw in so many hugs and kisses on our way out. redvelvetlondon.com
A wonderful family owned restaurant right in the middle of London with excellent service and incredible food! We had a wonderful night at Le Garrick and would highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a romantic setting or excellent French food. It’s always a good sign that you’re surrounded by French speakers and that the staff are French – so we knew we were in good hands from the start. We had the fondue to start with, which was excellent – I’d highly recommend you order this – and then had moules frites and duck in orange sauce for our main courses. The moules were some of the best I’ve had – and definitely the best in London! thelifestylediaries.com
