A posh rendition of school dinners. Classic British dishes are on the menu in a tasteful environment with excellent service. The leak and potato soup was decent. The coffee is good.
We came for drinks but couldn’t resist the tapas displayed on the bar. My favourite was crostini with white anchovy and finely chopped red onion. Also delightful was the gazpacho in a shooter glass. Service was super friendly. One of the waiters accompanied us over Trafalgar sq and a block further to our next meeting.Wish I could return there more often I also bought their cookbook
The coffee at the National Dining Rooms is expensive and not good. The service is indifferent and the cakes are the same at all Peyton & Byrne establishments across London. If you are in need of a break from the pictures at the National Gallery then find somewhere better round the corner! There are so many places nearby…
Slightly disappointing sunday lunch. A group of us went for Sunday lunch, going for the 3 courses for 27 deal. Starters were generally pretty good, I had a plum and venison thing which was pretty tasty. Other people’s starters tasted pretty good too. We all went for roasts for main – the veal was disappointing, chewy and fatty. Roast beef was pretty tasty, but again quite chewy, not at all tender. The roast pork was however very good. Roast potatoes tasted good but didn’t have the required texture, while vegetables and yorkshire puddings were fine. Desserts were generally good – especially the crumble thing i had.Overall though, slightly disappointing, I’d certainly expect better for the price. Doubt I would return. Good view of trafalgar square though..
Awful. Were not allowed to sit where we requested, because it would mean the staff having to walk too much (honestly!).Drinks order arrived after the main course, and required us to ask for it twice. Drinks were wrong, and server argued with us as to what we had ordered, despite it not having been her who took the order. Asked for ketchup with order (chicken and bacon sandwich), did not arrive, no apology. My dessert was dry, my friend’s came without the scoop of vanilla ice cream requested (and he was not given an opportunity to change his mind, nor told this when ordering). Then, a random scoop of ice cream, of a random flavour, turned up out of nowhere. 4 items out of six were not correct on the first try, and the staff are disinterested.
