Popped into Waxy’s some time ago for a couple of birthday beers for a friend’s special day. We entered as a part of a pub crawl of sorts, so we only opted for a couple of drinks. The atmosphere is certainly lively at this pub with clientele of varying ages and backgrounds . . . lots of young people but a few older folk that I imagine might be regulars. The music was fun and energetic, and the atmosphere is very cool, with multiple floors and lots of interesting woodwork. Kind of made me feel like being inside a giant hunting lodge.I did find some of the bar staff a tad rude. I mentioned that it was my friend’s birthday, and asked if they did Birthday shots (a pretty common thing in Canada). I was responded to with some exasperated grumble and that was that. The rest of the staff seemed friendly enough, so maybe they were just having a bad day.All in all, the pub certainly has a unique atmosphere, a good selection of drinks, and giant, bumpin’ crowd.
Waxy is the perfect location to start a long night of entertainment out, a hub to meet friends. It could also work for after work drinks in Central LondonThe characters here are just outstanding: the bartender and a few members of the staff could be the reasons you would want to revisit, so lovely and chatty based on your mood. the place looks like a labyrinth – 4 unique bars covering 6 different levels and they are somehow linked by staircases and passages. so you can literally drink your way through this Irish bar, considering the playlist is also quite catchy and will definitely brighten up your mood.I did not try the food as we were heading for a birthday dining but the chaps around seemed to be quite happy with their plates. No need to compliment them on the drinks, they are an Irish pub but apart from their expected success on the beers and ales they are quite skillful in the cocktails section. The decor and the space is not cluttered and arranged with narrow spaces, so you can relax here instead of trying to lining up for a small corner at many venues in the central.
There is something very endearing about this pub. It’s not trendy, cool or chic but it’s homely, traditional & it’s got a huge old oak tree in the middle of it! This place is massive, the bar as you come up is pretty average sized but come down and it’s a cavernous maze of rooms. The soundtrack is good, and they have a full range of Irish drinks, including a rarity in the UK – Murphys on tap!
Fun Pub!. Fun pub with many different levels and rooms to get lost in. They often have live music in various rooms. Can get very busy and service can be slow.
Very average pub food that’s handy when you need a snack at the pub. But I love waxys for the atmosphere and pub experiance, especially if there is international rugby on. Great place to meet up to start an evening with the lads.
