Having spent many years toying with offering meals, the Nest seems to have got it right recently with an excellent chef and very reasonable prices. It’s a bit rough and ready, though there’s actually more art to the decor than you might think, and it’s a proper pub which happens to sell better food than many so-called gastro-pubs! A good place to go for a meal and drink, or just a drink, especially if you like live music which is actually quite varied here these days, as long as you don’t mind the somewhat cramped environment. The place has a bit of a modern counter-culture vibe to it and, in fact, always has though trends move on. The locals are generally friendly if occasionally challenging so it’s not a place for the nervous nor for the trouble-maker but, if you want an interesting night out it’s certainly worth a try.

It appears a little run down on the inside but having spent some time there I think that’s the style they’re going for. The pub is a popular venue for live music i.e. hardcore punk and has a large stage area towards the back. The toilets are also pretty interesting. We walked in one afternoon not expecting much but were pleasantly surprised by the great food and friendly bar staff. Talk about not judging a book by its cover, I still can’t get over how good the burgers were and cheap to boot . 5 for a stilton with bacon and 3.50 for a regular cheese one with pickle and salad. The chips were perfect as well.
