Located on the main strip through Didsbury, Mud Crab looks a bit odd with its beach shack style exterior but based on a friend’s experience at their sister restaurant in Manchester, I figured I may as well try it. There was an ok selection of beers (welcome from the standard Carling of other nearby eateries). I went for the ‘famous’ duck and waffle, which living in London and having been to Duck & Waffle in the city seemed intriguing. The waffle was thin and crispy rather than a Belgian waffle and was kind of lost with all the toppings which were really the star of the show. Shredded duck was crispy in places which wasn’t a bad thing and a mix of chilli sauce and maple syrup were new and worked well. For pudding I had the bourbon sticky toffee pudding which was very dense and extremely heavy, especially with the clotted cream on the side. In places the bourbon was almost a little overwhelming and quite sharp. I was pleasantly surprised by the food and there is certainly a lot of options so I’m sure I’d go back again. charliedistracted.com
Visited here tonight for the first time, great good, lovely staff but terrible table, sat in booth couldn’t see anyone except mirror, no atmosphere and under a very loud speaker. Next time will ask to sit at front so you soak up a proper atmospheric night out! Xxxxxxfelt like we were the only ones in there! Said enough still enjoyed it.
Mud Crab Manchester. My quest for the best nachos in town brought me to Mud Crab Caf @The Grinch in town. I quickly sat down and ordered what I came for; I went for the nachos with slow cooked chilli beef brisket (12).My main problem with nachos is that there are too many Doritos and not enough of the condiments. This cannot be said here, with more than enough sour cream and guacamole to go round. I liked how there were still large pieces of avocado in the guacamole and it tasted fresh. The beef brisket left a taste in my mouth that I did not enjoy, I was pulling the same face I do when you quickly swig the gone off milk in the fridge. It was of course not the same taste but it did not compliment the rest of the dish.I wanted more salsa and less sour cream, I also wanted more spice as the jalapenos just were not enough. The fresh coriander was a nice touch and livened it up a little.Overall this would be a good little snack over a few beers with friends and is ideal for 2/3 people. The service was quick, casual and my waiter was extremely polite and kind. Just a warning for those taking youngsters, the bar is decorated with some rather fetching women with rather a lot of skin on show. Not that many men would be complaining. I got what I came for, was reasonably happy but 12 was on the steep side. The search continues….
Good service, small portions. Had a meal at Mud Crab Cafe with our family – our main server was great, very attentive and friendly, and even sorted out an issue with the meal but the meal itself was a little disappointing: the portion sizes were on the mean side – the Nachos sharing plate (at 10) was enough for one really; the small plates were really really small (6 pieces of calamri for 7.00), and whilst on the calamari it was so spicy it was almost inedible – it was not described as spicy on the menu so came as a shock to my 8 year old. What we got (calamari side) was really tasty. What a shame about the portion size.
