Had a decent meal with good service. Food seemed alright to look at and tasted well. The presentation of the food was very basic as well. I can’t say with confidence but I think it was because of this meal that I had an upset stomach for a few days. We ordered about 6 dishes among 6 people and their servings were just about enough. Their chicken seemed like it was pre cooked and then just dumped into whatever sauce/rice/noodles/starter that we ordered. Ambiance is good though if you like the taste of the food.

My review is based on Chung Ying gardens in the Chinatown area of BirminghamBest dim sum in Birmingham well in my opinion anyway!!! Their website claims to have the largest selection of dim sum in the UK I doubt this is 100% accurate as I’ve been to restaurants in Manchester’s China Town that have a similar range.Always good, all ways fresh I have never had a bad experience here in the 12 years I’ve been on if here.Staff can seem somewhat uninterested at times but i think it’s more about being efficient because they are so busy.Always good to see a good amount of Chinese customers happily indulging in the food! I was in fact introduced to dim sum and this place by a work colleague who was originally from Hong Kong and he told me it was as authentic as I could hope for in sunny Birmingham !! 95% accurate was his opinion.I’ve eaten many things of the main menu but always come here mainly for the dim sum favourites being the prawn and chive steamed dumplings and the crispy fried squid which is the best way thin strips of squid cooked perfectly so it’s not a chewy mess!!A piece of advise try the fried cuttlefish cakes!! Simply delicious!

We visited one of Birminghams oldest Chinese restaurants to tuck into some traditional food from the modern superpower.AtmosphereDont expect anything fancy. Chung Ying Gardens regulars presumably head there because of the menu, rather than the decor, which is a bit plain and harsh. The music is more interesting Chinese pop songs play in the background, while on our visit the restaurant was full of Chinese people as well, always a good sign pointing to authenticity.FoodClaiming to serve the largest selection of dim sum in the country, Chung Ying Garden certainly has a generous menu, with a dizzyingly long list of a la carte options. The dim sum (small starters intended for sampling and sharing) are even the topic of manager James Wongs hilarious Psy-inspired viral music video, Oppan Dim Sum Style. We ended up having deep-fried prawn balls thai style which went brilliantly with sweet and sour sauce, crispy and satisfying Vietnamese spring rolls and steamed king prawn and chive dumplings. The dumplings I have to admit were a strange experience the gooey white packages made from rice flour werent my thing at all, but you may disagree. The set menus will save you from spending half the night trying to choose. Our Deluxe A choice included sizzling fillet of beef in black pepper sauce, which I found somewhat lacking in flavour while my guest loved it, and fried sliced chicken in birds nest, which both of us agreed was disappointing although the steamed green beans were a great touch. The fried sea bass steak thai style added some much needed zing and interesting flavours, while the yeung chow fried rice was a lovely and satisfying accompaniment.drinksChinese food can make you quite thirsty, so we were advised to wash it all down with bottles of Tsing Tao, a Chinese beer that appears on the drinks list along with Tiger. Wines, spirits and soft drinks are of course also served.pricingCost of individual dishes varies, but set menus include:Deluxe A menu for 2 (two dim sum starters, four mains) = 36 in total, or 18 per head.Deluxe B menu for 3 (three assorted starters, five mains) = 60, or 20 per head.overallA pleasant experience and definitely a satisfying one both the list of options and the portions are generous. As someone who doesnt eat Oriental food very often, the sweet flavours and unusual textures always make an interesting change from European cuisine. The service is far from polished, but the waiters are friendly and prompt, which makes all the difference. dinebirmingham.co.uk

We were up from London for the day & decided to try Chung ying garden for some dim sum. Shanghai dumplings, chickens feet in black bean sauce, cheng fun, char Sui buns all in order. Bad service but that isn’t unusual for a Chinese restaurant. All in all a good find

Food is great and so is the service. Can get very busy at times but service and food quality is never compromised!

An excellent lunch. Beautiful venison in paper and the yuk sung is the best I have ever experienced. Thank you.
