A fair local pub restaurant run by the John Barras group with some tasty, well prepared dishes on the menu. I went there on Sunday with friends and ordered a wild boar burger, the pattie of which they make with boar, pork and apple. It was served on a brioche bun with black pudding, roasted apple and a free range egg. It also came with a nicely sweet chunky tomato sauce. It looked really good and tasted great. For 8.99 it was the most expensive burger on their menu and still good value, coming with chips and a couple of onion rings. My friend meanwhile ordered a full English that seemed very fresh, with some Boroughbridge sausages, free range eggs and some really delicious mushrooms. For a starter we shared a serving of chilli tortilla chips topped with pulled pork, salsa and jalapeos, which was sweetly savoury, and came in a generous portion. My other friend had a chicken burger with sweet potato fries, and while I didn’t try the burger the fries were delicious – really crispy on the outside, soft inside and very tasty. The pub which abuts farmland on the Shooters Hill Road into Welling also has a big beer garden for sunny days and is family friendly, with a kiddie castle for children to jump about on.
