I’ve ran past Front Room loads of times now and have always wanted to go in, and after my first experience of it this morning I will not be back. It’s a nice place to be I’ll give it that, good atmosphere, interesting decor in quite part of finsbury park, and the staff are largely friendly and welcoming. We sat down and ordered 3 coffees, a smoothy, two full English breakfasts, a sandwich and eggs royale. After having to ask once the drinks came 25 minutes later. My black Americano came as a double espresso in a double espresso cup. When I asked if this was the standard Americano size the waiter said no and that he’d sort it out. Our main waitress then returned with the same espresso they’d served me 5 minutes ago (same chipped tiny mug…) topped two thirds up with hot water. Still not an Americano guys, and definitely not fresh. But I kept this one cos I needed some caffeine. Anyway, a good 45 minutes after sitting down three of our breakfasts came (we had to ask about that, too). Thankfully the full Englishes were very good, however the grilled sandwich was cold throughout, and the eggs royale was as yet non existent… After asking twice where it was, the three of us with food had already finished by the time it came, and the eggs were wet with what seemed to be the vinegary water they were poached in, making for soggy muffins and bitter ‘fabulous’ hollandaise sauce. Not good. Complaints were met with an unsympathetic apology from our waitress, who half heartedly told us that the kitchen was busy. I’m sure the kitchen was pretty busy, but it’s midday on a Sunday and you’re offering brunch, you should be able to deal with busy. Must try harder.
When in north London, I never give this place a miss! Serving home made breakfast, this place offers a good weekend hangout spot for everybody. Though busy, this place is surely worth a try! The main things to try out from the menu are the signature pancakes and the quiche which is baked to perfection. Very tasty!
