Big fan of this restaurant when staying at the Sanderson. Staff are super friendly and provide immaculate service. Ambience is awesome and very trendy. Food is always outstanding. Only complaint is that the portions are small and hence a starter and main are generally not suffice.

Since getting back from our honeymoon, Mr S and I have had the usual string of birthdays, parties and weddings to attend every weekend. We love seeing our friends and celebrating with them but we’ve had little time to enjoy spending alone as a married couple. Finally, we had a weekend together and with our upcoming three month wedding anniversary (!) it was definitely time for a night on the tiles! The super stylish Sanderson Hotel was the venue for evening’s fun. With my long locks blow-dried and makeup troweled on we headed out! When we arrived at the hotel I took the opportunity to pose in some of the many cool chairs the festoon the foyer…Styled by by Ian Schrager and Phillipe Starck, the interior of The Sanderson is totally fun, fashionable and fabulous. The statement pieces, over sized furnishing and unusual artwork give the hotel a rather surreal feel. Indeed, the interior designer drew inspiration from Salvador Dali and Alice in Wonderland to create the beautiful, modern boutique hotel. And talking of Alice, The Mad Hatter’s Tea that is served at The Sanderson is renowned as one of the best, most inventive teas in London. The Long Bar is the central feature of the hotel’s public area and it’s been a favourite spot of mine for many years. The 80 foot long bar is somewhere you can always count on to be busy with people and it’s perfect for people watching and killer cocktails! On this gorgeous summer’s day we would be dining outside in the Courtyard Garden.Which was absolutely stunning and perfect for dinner on this balmy night. The Garden has a gorgeous Japanese-style design with bonsai trees and pretty waterfalls and in the tranquility of the place, Mr Silver and I were feeling pretty Zen!Wait, there’s something missing…Ahh…that’s better!Mr Silver chose the Vesuvio for his first drink and it certainly erupted inside him as the combination of vodka, lychee, ginger, lemongrass and chilli had a fabulously spicy kick! My Bakewell (a mix of fresh raspberries, mixed with a fruity amaretto and topped off with champers was a lovely bubbly, more girly option. From the menu of classic favourites we decided to start with two of the sharing platters.A selection of crisp raw crudites served on a bed of ice was accompanied by a selection of pitta bread and dips including hummus, harissa roasted eggplant (my favourite) and sunflower seed tapenade.Mr S commented that he would never have though of ordering a platter of raw vegetables but he loved the raw crunch of the fresh and healthy crudite. Plus, apparently celery is actually calorie negative, though I doubt it is when slathered in hummus and washed down with cocktails ;)Our other sharing platter was a selection of satays, beef, prawn and chicken, served with peanut sauce. The meats were perfectly cooked with the beef being rare inside and the chicken tender and moist (is there another word for moist by the way? Awful word…). The prawns were delicious and I would have more, though I was glad there wasn’t as the portion sizes were more than generous. Our starters were punctuated with another round of cocktails…Mr S chose a Mist which was a potent mix of Johnny Walker and rhubarb liquor mixed with rosewater, lemon juice and lemonade! I chose to stick with champagne cocktails all night and my second was flavoured with elderflower. Before starting it, I popped to the ladies. I absolutely love the huge Venetian mirrors in the bathroom and I couldn’t resist a double mirror selfie…Ok, so I don’t quite have the selfie skills of Kimmy K (West) but you’ve got to admit those are gorgeous mirrors!Back at the table and our main courses arrived.Mr S chose a classic fish and chips served with malt vinegar, yogurt tartar and crush peas (or posh mushy peas). Everything on the plate was perfectly cooked and it was also well portioned. After our large starters, Mr S didn’t need the epic portion of fish and chips that you receive in some restaurants.I chose salmon with mixed vegetables, fingerling potatoes and a garlic vinaigrette. It was cooked totally wonderfully and the soft mini potatoes and earthy mushrooms were a delicious accompaniment. Throughout the meal, the service was excellent with our waitress being extremely helpful with recommendations and cocktail refills!! Speaking of which…My final champagne cocktail was a lovely raspberry bellini. And Mr Silver also chose to sink a pink cocktail!I was pretty full by the time I’d finished my salmon but Mr S was keen for dessert when he spotted the dark chocolate and lime tart on the menu.Which he chose to chase with his favourite after dinner cocktail, an espresso martini. We were having such a great night that we didn’t want the fun to end so we moved into the Purple Bar for a few more drinks……to end our perfect date night!Thank you so much to the Sanderson for giving us the perfect date night! Food, drinks and service were total perfection and a great way to make the most of our time together. The Sanderson50 Berners StreetLondonW1T 3NG020 7300 1400Our dinner and drinks were complimentary for purposes of the review but my views are entirely honest…The Sanderson has always been one of my favourite London hot spot! silverspoonlondon.co.uk
