A superb Italian restaurant in London. Definitely has a competitive edge in terms of authenticity. It also has ROUND tables (great for conversations). When we sat down, we were immediately brought olives, Italian cured meat and soft cheese along with bread and olive oil. I was pleasantly surprised to find a classic dish of Bologna – ravioli alla zucca (pumpkin ravioli) on the menu. It was excellently done. I also tried a spinach pasta (very innovative) with lamb ragu. The lamb was tender and the ragu was perfectly seasoned. The waiter recommended a classic Italian wine to pair with our food (le poggere) and told us quirky story about it. The staff were all Italian and the service was great. For dessert I ordered a tiramisu. Here, I think it could’ve been a little better (less watery) but that’s a minor point. Once we were done, the waiter presented us with a selection of Italian chocolates (on the house). The limoncello chocolate was great! All in all, a great experience. Amazing food, friendly staff, round tables and great price (only 25 pounds for ravioli, tiramisu and a glass of wine).

I was looking for a decent fixed price menu in central to take my family for an early dinner. After trawling the web I found Latium, who do a very reasonable 2 courses for 16 and 3 courses for 19. Situated in a side street between Tottenham Court Road and Oxford Circus Latiums decor is modern but nothing inspiring. When we arrived at 6 the restaurant was empty with the exception of about 8 waiting staff! Luckily when we left the restaurant had really filled up so they all had something to do! Even though we had the fixed priced menu we were still given a range of antipasti on the house – gorgeous foccachi bread, creamy cheese, salmi, amazing olive oils and olives this was a lovely nibble whilst we selected our food. My starter was delicious mixed exotic mushrooms with veal jus and scamorza a sort of Italian halloumi – a delicious, creamy dish full of flavour. The rest of my party opted for the bresaola, served with a long dressing, rocket and parmesan all delicious! For main I had pan fried sea bream, Swiss chard and anchovy sauce, all delicious and a great flavour though the fish was slightly overcooked for my liking. The rest of my party had the fresh pastas, delicious stuffed ravioli, lamb ragu and a delicious pesto dish all went down very well. Dessert wise my other half opted for tiramisu which was lovely but extremely rich, while the rest of us had a lovely amaretti afogatto. The service was very attentive, and the food great value for Classic Italian cooking, this place is worth going down the random side street for!
Great food.. Service was terrible. No eye contact; difficult to order drinks; and impossible to get a waiters attention. But again the food itself and the manager were great.
More than meets the eye. Latium delivers on all fronts, and in the end you get a very good deal. Exotic pasta dishes will leave wanting to try more of their creations. The wine list was a complete hit with our crew…I have to write down more of Latium’s Italian labels as they have a generous choice that opens new vistas on the reds horizon. The decor compliments the food (this is unusual but if you like Norwood’s out on Vancouver Island’s rocky coast you won’t feel out of place). Latium is simply an excellent Italian restaurant with excellent service.
