The Roxy used to be my go-to club for when we were in the centre of town and wanted to keep the party going. It’s not really the kind of place I’d seek out especially but it’s open until about three and if you’re drunk enough then the music is good enough. On Saturdays it is supposed to be a bit of an indie disco but in fact it plays pretty poppy stuff (I’m sure Here Comes the Hotstepper gets played every time I’m there). And because of this its rather popular and always busy. It stays open to the same late-ish hour every day of the week, meaning in the weekday it has a very studenty/international crowd. It had a refurb not so long back and looks much more like a proper club these days than just a place everyone ends up at. Verdict – reliable and fun. jaminaward.wixsite.com
I went to this club to celebrate my 21st birthday, and it turned out to be a great decision! It was a fantastic night. The Roxy is a couple of minutes walk from several tube stations; it’s easy to find. We went in expecting really expensive drinks, but a great selection of cocktail pitchers were two-for-one, so that sorted us for the night.Really, though, it’s the atmosphere that makes this place so much fun. It’s a small club, but its slick furnishings and minimalist layout really do work with the space. It fills up with people slowly but surely, and by midnight, was chock-a-block full, with a crowd singing along to some fantastic music – indie hits, classic rock, and some nicely timed cheesy tracks. I found myself loving each and every track. I would, therefore, highly suggest the ‘Don’t You Want Me Baby’ night on Saturdays. It was a close to perfect experience. So. Much. Fun.
