My favourite bar to drink in and this is my favourite branch of the chain. The bar staff are jokey and fun and the drinks menu is amazing. The 80s music blares through and we always have fun when we go here. The food is minimal but if you need bar snacks then the selection is OK. I love the Earl Grey Martini which comes in a glass teacup with a custard cream on the side, and the jager oysters have knocked us out a few times! Great for an informal night out with friends. Happy hour also gives you two for the price of one so make sure you get there for that! laughteriscatching.com
I can say about this place that they probably have the best cocktails in Central London, with such a massive list of cocktails. If you get hungry they also have some finger food and it’s really nice. They do nice calamari, nachos or hot dog. The staff here is so entertaining and so much fun even though it’s so busy they know how to make you feel good. Oh and the music is great, not the cheesy commercial music you hear in any other bars or clubs in London.
Stopped off at the London Cocktail Club in Fitzrovia for pre-dinner drinks and the cocktails were good enough. Finding it can be tricky as it is a basement bar with few street level signs and we walked past it a few times before we found it. Inside the lighting is dark and moody but not much room and I can imagine this place being completely packed on a Friday and Saturday night. The decor is interesting if slightly grubby but with some nice touches – the food menus are all printed on ‘Food Porn’ VHS video covers!Happy hour means you get 2 drinks for the price of 1, not half price drinks, and is only available for the cocktails featured on the first page of the menu. Cynical as I am it makes me wonder exactly how strong those first page cocktails really are! As such I went wandering and opted for a London Boulevard which is a very nice cognac cocktail. Others went for a Brixton Riot which arrives with a flaming passion fruit floating in it, Bellinis and a Cosmopolitan. They offer a comprehensive range of new and classic cocktails. We bought a few rounds and left ready for the night ahead. This place is okay but not a patch on Opium Cocktail bar.
We visited LCC on a Saturday night and once we’d found it (it’s in a basement, so don’t walk up Goodge St too fast or you’ll miss it!) we were ushered through to the rest of our party who were seated right at the back in a cosy area of seating. Firstly, this place is renowned for, and prides itself on, its cocktails and I can report that all of that is deserved. The classics are covered, and made very well, but the real magic starts when you try the bespoke cocktails. Flaming passion fruits, jam jars, tins of beans, rashers of bacon, biscuits and sweets all make an appearance and it’s very impressive. Service is relatively fast for a cocktail bar too, plus there’s table service, and prices are MUCH better than I was expecting as an out-of-towner! (6-9 per cocktail). Unfortunately, I found that the great product was let down greatly by the ambience. Whilst the music was fun and retro (Mambo No. 5, etc) and seemingly random (thanks, Spotify!) it was far too loud for the space. Perhaps I’m getting old, but it’s nicer to be able to get away from music if you’re in a seated cocktail bar with friends. Whilst there’s two areas (the bar and the rear area), it’s impossible to escape the music. The basement nature of the bar makes it incredibly hot too. danmorrissey.com
