Been to this restaurant very often 6 years ago before I left uk. Drove all the way to visit this restaurant again now. Satisfied my cravings for Taiwanese food especially the bubble tea with milk. Cakes are very nice and so do the cookies and desserts. Cakes and cookies are very delicate. Price is reasonable.
Disastrous dining expierence. The waitress is very rude indeed. We had a nightmare experience there. She made a Taro Shake likes a glass of water, and when we asked for exchange, she even didn’t apologize but said unpleasant comments on us with another waiter. Her service is really below the standard, flattering European customers but treat Asian customers unfairly. The food is really like normal home made food rather than the proper restaurant food. We are very unhappy to dine there, so distressful and disappointed.Highly not recommend to go!
The manager is very rude and the cakes are mediocre. AVOID!. My friends and I had a truly unpleasant experience at the Old Tree this evening, and as such I would never go back nor recommend it to anyone. Let me tell you what happened.I arrived with two friends at 10 pm, and asked if for a table for three. The chap at the door said ‘Yes please come in’… and so we chose cakes and drinks and sat down. Immediately upon ordering we were informed that we should hurry up because closing time was in 20 minutes. Rather rude for starters! But wait… From then on the manager was unspeakably boorish, staring at us constantly with menacing eyes and making every possible effort to make us feel unwelcome. He was very unpleasant with his staring, particularly towards my female friend. He ruined our evening just because he was annoyed that we came to have bubble tea and cakes at his caf. One of the female waitresses was also very abrupt and discourteous. The manager asked us to pay up in an extremely rude manner, and did not say a word of thanks or a simple ‘Good Evening’ when we left. Just to put things in perspective, we are quiet, polite professional people and did nothing whatsoever to offend the manager or staff. We were told clearly by the man at the door that we could take a seat. This makes the rudeness of the other staff seem particularly unpardonable.Furthermore the cakes are of lackluster quality and are very overpriced. I used to go for the nice chocolate custard bun, but they recently ruined this by giving it a ‘makeover’ – one more reason not to go back.Bottom line – AVOID. The manager is thoroughly unpleasant, having presumably lost his manners and kindness somewhere in the ocean of cash he has generated from selling overpriced mediocre cakes. If you want your money to go to a nice person, try somewhere different. There is a French caf called ‘Whisper’ round the corner with wonderful service and great cakes.
Poor Poor Service. Went in for a spot of lunch as I happened to visit a friend at Golders Green. Have read alot about The Old Tree and always wanted to pay a visit. Sat down and ordered the Grill Beef Bento Box and Bubble Milk Tea. Coming from a service industry myself and having been working in a cafe for years, I am less than satisified with the service. The restaurant was not busy and there were 6 sfaff behind the counter excluding the chief. Service is rather below average, tone of the staffs who served me were neither friendly or excited. I am not expecting a long conversation but at least ask your customer how his or her day was and try to look welcoming. One word to sum up the attitude is indifference and I felt even worst when I got up to pay for my bill. The bill was 14.74 and I was told that there is a mininum of 20 for card payment.. The lady who seemed to be the cash controller was rolling her eyes and was mumbling under her breath to what seemed like a sigh of inconvenience. I told her I only have 10 cash on me while apologising profusely. I even offered to buy some cakes just to make up the sum to 20. I felt extremely uncomfortable but she told my card and shove it into the machine. The card went through and not a word of thank you from the lady while I apologise again and left. The whole experience was dreadful and I will definitely not recommend this place and will never return.
Cozy & warm, just like an old friend, Taiwanese Soul Food!. Although the menu is not elaborate, the choices are only a few, but it is simple & just nice. You can definitely taste the chef’s soul in the food here. The kind of soul food that one would normally find from mom’s cooking! Their cakes are the best of both worlds, using the fresh cream, cheese, berries and fruits of England with an asian essence to them. Just the right tint of sweetness and very light. I must say they have the best pearls (Topica balls) in their bubble tea. If you haven’t tried it yet, it is worth a trip up there.
