For a brand which claims to be the best burger experience, I found it rather disappointing. To start off, the burger size was decent, nothing really special when you compare it with the prices charged. The taste wasn’t outstanding too. Overall, a sad experience for me.

Great location, friendly service, beautifully crafted burger. Ingredients were top-notch and selection of beers, good. It was a quick visit due to having tickets for a concert right on the other side of the road, but definitely would return

Gourmet Burger Kitchen – Oxford, England. Founded and owned by Kiwis, Gourmet Burger Kitchen is a look into the Australian-New Zealand milk bar-style burgers done in a restaurant setting. It is British chain maintaining a rustic feel to it. The food is good, but there is better out there. Some would say the setting is like an American diner; to me it was more of a wooden cabin (somehow in an urban area) being utilised to be sort of like a diner. Like a wooden cabin in certain weather it had that kind of warm comfort. Pen-ultimately though, it all does seem like a bland interior.Service here is pretty good and quick – an efficient and fast feed for when you need it. As part of a trio going here, between us we got the Sliders (mine – described below), a blue cheese burger with skinny fries (lunch special – shared as one member was not so hungry), haloumi bites, monkey nuts and a lime milkshake. The sliders were a specialty, with three smaller burgers for the price of some others. These included one on a brioche bun, American cheese, onion ring, pickle, mayo and house ketchup; another was a flour bun, blue cheese, onion jam, mayo & house ketchup and a fennel brioche bun topped with aged Cheddar, homeslaw, mayo & house ketchup. The meat on all three was of a decent quality and cooked rare. Some were better than others, the aged Cheddar and homeslaw one was just okay; on the other hand the blue cheese and onion jam one was delicious. The most innovative was easily the one with the onion ring – I’d suggest that one go on the main menu. For starters, there was monkey nuts (peanuts in their shell) for free as a good little aperitif for waiting and a healthy one to boot. There was also the haloumi bites, which came with a kiwi fruit and habanero chili sauce. The sauce was exceptionally spicy and the haloumi was cooked to a good extent, it was still soft and not crispy like most haloumi tends to be. I had a bite of the blue cheese burger, it was simple yet very flavoursome – simplicity at its finest. On the side were skinny fries, and they were straw thin. They are a unique option to Gourmet Burger Kitchen and are pretty good on the side. Just don’t have too many. Finally there is the milkshake, served in the classic carvery silver cup. This was frosty on the outside and had creamy ingredients. Though it was good, the lime flavour did overcome the milk and ice-cream. All up – okay, it was refreshing. Gourmet Burger Kitchen was decent, but it is not a place that I would go out of my way to return; on the other hand I would not boycott it either.
