Sutton is very far from a culinary destination. With the high street lined with mediocre middle sized chain restaurants such as Zizzi, Strada and Pizza Express, Brasserie Zacherin brings a touch of decorum just outside the station. It’s a winner especially due to it’s steak for a tenner, with chips and wine. While sirloin probably not my most favourite of cuts at this price you can’t argue. There a la carte isn’t really that adventurous, in particular their choice of starters, and onion soup gratin for 7.50 way too pricey, see Brasserie Zedel for simple starters at proper value. The bream with the courgettes was great the bite of the courgette contrasting the delicate bream, perfectly cooked fish is brilliant. The duck confit though was a bit too salty, heard this complaint here a few times as well, clearly their cure is a bit too strong. The desserts are nice if not a revelation. While food here can be a mixed bag, but there isn’t much in Sutton that can match it foodoverlondon.com
Disappointing. We booked a table on 30th May for a celebratory meal. If you like steak, the quality is good but not exceptional I would say. The vegetable side portions are a little meagre and the chips surprisingly bland really. Bread is good quality, wine expensive. Anticipating french cuisine ( we do know our onions there !!) I ordered green bean salad to start with comte cheese, which I love – it was conspicuous by its absence : just a few tired looking flakes here and there. My main : goats cheese and red onion tart was very unimpressive and nothing those I have come across in France.Coffee was acceptable but tepid. We were not tempted to remain for dessert- our waitress barely understood our order as it was and her stoney faced expression remained unchanged throughout the evening!! In conclusion, if you love french food , this is not the place for you but if you are hungry and a steak eater it’s passable.
Snob value. Tried this place for the first and last time after passing it for a couple of years, I will continue to pass by in the future. My partner and me had dinner on a quite Wednesday evening just after 6. The 2 courses took us over 2 hours to get and were very poor. My starter of smoked mackerel with what proported to be a horse raddish potato salad was half a fillet striaght out of the iceland package and the whole dish had less flavour than the browning bits of garnish. The two main courses were no better, dry leg of duck and the most expensive aberdeen angus burger in the world, cooked to a crisp when it was only requested that it be cooked all the way through and served with no garnish on a standard macd 99p burger bun. I think the staff confused the request to cook the bacon crispy since this was basically a piece of a streaky fat. All veg is extra on the main courses and dont expect portions that could feed a child, I hate to think what would be served if you were to ask for a child portion. The deserts were pretty much the same standard when they eventually arrived and also with little or no flavour, the apple tart was notable for its lack of apple – cut thin enough to be transparent, posh but pointless after it was drowned in ice cream. How the chef managed to remove all trace of flavour from rubarb is not known but again is skilful. After watching the customer in front seemingly being told off by the waitress for cancelling a slow to arrive dish I would say the staff do not adhere to the concept of customer service and I was met with a similar astonishment when I requested to have the service charge removed from my bill. In short another venue that thinks it can give the impression of high quality by charging high prioces, unfortunately I see enough people for whom being seen to spend is paramount no matter what the quality to kep these places in business.
Found it to be overpriced. Not enough hot starters. Atlantic prawn starter is basically normal unshelled prawns with a bit of salad thrown on the plate and pot of sauce, in otherwords it’s a DIY prawn cocktail. Where is the cooking skill in that. It took 1 hr before our starter order was taken. The menu hasn’t changed since I went there maybe 2 years ago. Surely it’s time to change it especially as they have no daily/ weekly specials
Excellent food. I have eaten here a number of times with my family since it opened. The staff have always been attentive and the food is always great .Its not cheap, but if you have the set menu you are able to keep the price down. I know we will have a good evening and not be disappointed when we eat at Brasserie Vacherin.
Lunch 90 for two with one beer and one glass of wine. Very overpriced. Prawn starter still had intestine tract in situ – staff uninterested. Steak – perfectly cooked but let’s be honest thats not difficult. Dessert – Ok but nothing special considering the price.
Looks small from outside but very deceptive. Great atmosphere even with a very large party we still had a romantic evening. Expensive but worth it. Menu excellent and lots of good choices with great service. Approx #85.00 for two with 3 cores and 1 bottle wine. Will be going back.
