THIS is a great pub which cannot be refuted. The STAFF however are ruining the ambiance and food WHICH until 5 year’s ago use to be good. AS for the Sunday roast WHICH doesn’t constitute anything like a proper roast, many locals and others have started going to Highgate and the Spaniards inn for better food and courteous staff.
Lovely pub. The vegetarian ‘roast’ option on Sunday was delicious with the exception of the Yorkshire pudding which was disappointing (hard and tasted like it had been re-microwaved). Nice staff. Baby friendly with high chairs and a change table. Can get busy so you best to book.
Such a disappointment!. It used to be our favorite pub in Hampstead: great atmosphere and excellent pub/ home-like food. But a recent visit, the first one after a few months, turned into a catastrophe. And I don’t even mean the fact that the prices were significantly increased, portions halved and served in a completely inappropriate here haute cuisine-ish manner. The disaster happened when a waiter, serving a little jug of hot sauce directly on their new enormous square plates, dropped it, pouring the hot sauce over a 6year old boy who was dining with us. Fortunately, except our, the kid’s and his parents’ shock and horror and his completely ruined trousers, nothing serious happened. Well, accidents happen and the waiter was apologetic (although apparently not trained enough how to serve hot food and too desperate to save his own trousers and shoes that he literally, although admittedly in panic, threw the jug on the kid). Again, it happens. Just left us with overall bad taste (sic!;) that they wanted to charge us for this extra sauce (after it was spilled, it was never replaced of course). Flask is the new favorite for sure
Splendid, a real hidden gem of hampstead.
Wonderful, but not for the food. 4 disappointed lunch customers here. A quiet place but food was disappointingly luke warm and uninteresting. 2 yrs ago everything here was great, I lived around the corner and ate here regularly. Is it new managementnow? Of course this old pub is fabulously evocative of an older age. I remember when the brown ceilings were because of the tobacco smoke.. My first visit you couldnt see in front of you! Those were the days..
Lost Mojo?. I’m not entirely sure what has happened to the Holly Bush but the service was absolutely appalling this evening. Our starters were never delivered and then it took 75 minutes for our main courses to appear (after two prompts). When the food did arrive, one of our party ordered tuna which turned out to be off. After we complained, the manager had the good grace not to charge us for anything. Holly Bush has always been a great local favourite but perhaps it needs some down time to get its mojo back?
Holly Bush review. Very stodgy and greasy pies. Unpleasant and expensive – not worth the money. Try the Horseshoe or Old White Bear or Freemasons Arms instead. Miles better. Also the place has totally lost it’s nice local feel since Fuller’s took over. Very sad to see this nice old place go downhill.
