My partner and I dropped in for lunch on a whim. We’d been in Istanbul the previous weekend and wanted to try to recapture some of the atmos and feeling.We were attracted by the woman sitting in the window hand-rolling pastry to make Gozleme – a savoury traditional Turkish pastry dish, made of hand-rolled dough that is lightly brushed with butter and eggs, filled with various toppings, sealed, and cooked over a griddle.Can you believe – we spent 7 on lunch for two and the food was delicious! Really fresh tasting and wonderfully seasoned and spiced. Some of the meals we ate in Istanbul were NOT as good as this. We shared a lamb Gozleme and a feta+spinach one. Can not praise highly enough! A nice glass of Turkish tea was a perfect accompaniment. Recommended! Will definitely be going back. Cost less than lunch at the nearby Harringay McDonalds but there is literally no comparison! Beautiful freshly home-made loveliness that they’re practically GIVING away, versus some indifferently cooked fast food with questionable ingredients slung together by a less-than-highly skilled assembly-line worker who may not recognise beautiful fresh fare if it were force fed to him or her? What you call a ‘no brainer’.
