Wanted to like, but quite pathetic.. I really wanted to like this place. It looks like a fun, lively spot from its perch above Exchange Street–a feeling further enhanced upon entering the establishment (think folky Latin-American style). That’s where things began to slide. The service was barely adequate and didn’t seem to be too attentive. The food was absolutely atrocious. We’re a bit leery of Latin American food on British menus (and there was an abundance of it at Bar Tapas), so we opted for something harder to mess up for starters: guacamole dip and fried calamari. The guacamole dip itself was edible, but the tortilla crisps served on the side were so incredibly salty that I thought I may go into sodium-induced cardiac arrest if I kept trying to eat them. The fried calamari took disgusting a step further. After fishing and being around the ocean for most of my life, I have great doubts as to whether what we were served was calamari at all. It looked more like frozen fish-sticks and the texture was very soft and mushy… in other words, way off. Just dreadful. Needless to say, we didn’t stick around for any more tapas.
