We’d been to the Prince Regent once or twice before for drinks but never eaten adn have always wanted to give it a try as it is a nice old pub, bright, airy, lots of space and always a good atmosphere inside.Met up with some friends on this given sunday for a catch up over a roast and beers. We ordered 3 x roast beefs (16) and 1 roast chicken (12) was served pretty promptly considering how busy they were. All tasted well, nice moist slices of beef, good roast pots, spiced red cabbage, cauliflower cheese, and oddly some bok choi, maybe it was asian fusion sunday.Only thing to whinge about were the portions for the price, a little to small for a sunday roast or maybe I need to go on a diet…All in all was a good afternoon, but mainly for the friends than the pub.

We came to Herne Hill rather by accident, but in need of some pub grub. The Prince Regent has a great reputation, or at least did, but on this occasion failed to impress greatly. Whilst a nice atmosphere and decent burger, the service was poor – had to ask for menus and bill leaving our dirty plates on our uncleared table. A previous visit bumps the score up to a 3 but could do better. Sarah M londoncurryblog.com

Really wanted to like the Prince Regent a lot more than I did. The atmosphere was busy and warm when we came for Saturday lunch, and we were entertained by the selection of board games. I had the small leak and Gruyere risotto which was a huge portion, but far too rich in taste for something that size. Tasty but overwhelming. Boyfriend enjoyed his burger very much but the Prince Regent was let down by the service – we had to get up and ask for menus and then were left with empty plates for 15 minutes before we had to go and ask for the bill. Shame because the food was alright. whatsarahdoes.com

Rather disappointing. I got the ‘start a tab add service charge’ stitch up as well. This was despite going to the bar to order, then receiving cutlery, a filthy ketchup bottle, a sorry looking dish of mayonaise and a used napkin as part of the ‘service’. The burger was expensive and came with a nasty, sweaty bit of cheddar and a thick slice of back bacon that could easily have been microwaved, complete with white blobs of fat. The salad was clearly past it’s best, smothered in a heavy vinaigrette. This was topped with a ropey looking tomato which I could not tell if it had been ‘sun dried’, grilled or just left on the side too long. Having said all that, the chips were nice. I won’t be coming back here if I can help it, and I’ll be recommending to my friends and family to actively avoid it.

The kitchen is high quality, best burger and wedges around for sure. Good wine too. Always a relaxing, fun atmosphere with friendly staff.

The food here is phenomenal. The prince regent brings pub culture to the next level.A real secret gem in southeast London. Fit for any foodie looking for an orgasmic food experience.

Royal pub grub in Herne Hill. The wake up of Herne Hill seemed to start with the redo of the Prince Regent. Now it is only one of the hubs in this area, although it started the trend. Great for a midweek dinner out or a few pints stretching to a saturday dinner after the Lido. Packed wuth drinkers hanging off the walls in the summer sun.
