To be entirely honest, we ended up at The Alwyne Castle entirely by mistake. We had booked for a Sunday Roast elsewhere only for our booking to be lost at the last minute. But what a happy mistake it was! Islington is a charming area, and The Alwyne fits right in. In the summer I assume it is delightful because of the bright blue outdoor seating, But in winter it’s perfectly cozy and comforting. The decor is classically English Pub, But with a bit of character and elegance thrown into the mix. We sat in the glassed in conservatory under beams of fairy lights- very pretty. The service was friendly and accommodating despite the Sunday lunch rush which we all appreciated.Price wise, this place offers up some real bargains! For under 13 we got a massive portion of some of the best Sunday roast I’ve ever had! Half of a chicken, perfectly roasted and still juicy. Huge Yorkshire puddings. Tasty stuffing, pigs in blankets and truly great roast potatoes and veg! We also got overflowing gravy boats at no extra charge when we asked for more gravy. The beef and Gammon were just as good according to my friends. For starters we also shared the pork crackling sticks which were absolutely delicious! I cannot recommend The Alwyne Castle highly enough and cannot wait to return again soon.

A great local pub with fantastic seating, inside and out. A mishap of chairs and tables but that’s it’s charm! Had a lovely afternoon here, gets very busy in both bar abd restaurant in the evening. Food delicious! Staff friendly and courteous.
