  • THE ZOMATO WARRIOR

Decent wee low-lit intimate candlelight affair, perfect if meeting someone for a drink ‘somewhere near Highbury & Is?’. They order pizzas in from across the road if yer hungry. Good music playing (Sunday pint always enhanced w/ a Kraftwerk album) and they have live music too – so don’t be surprised if there’s a ~folklues band in the corner when you settle down for a nice pint of bitter.

The Lamb is not quite like any other pub Ive been to in its surrounding Islington. Amongst the hordes of try hard rustic pubs that fill the area, the Lamb has nailed it; it is the only one that seems to be convincingly, well, rustic. Its dark lighting gives the pub an effortless sense of atmosphere, that is only amplified by the slap dash interior. The furniture is mismatched and scruffy, wooden tables are flanked by an assortment of chairs, my favourite of which was a bench upholstered by a swathe of red pleather. The effect is far from tacky; the Lamb manages to look both interesting and gritty. This unconventional feel is echoed by the cleverly selected collection of draft beer. The generic selection of Peroni and Fosters is replaced with delicious lagers such as Litovel and a rotating guest lager, as well as a good number of real ales. I bought myself a pint of my personal favourite, Camden Hells, sourced from the ever expanding local brewery in nearby CamdenThe Lamb does not serve food itself. But fear not, customers can have a pizza delivered directly to the pub in the same amount of time from the nearby Sorrento Pizzas located just down the road. It may be unconventional but its effective; my pizza came quick and was cheesy and delicious. An idea that is completely in accordance with the laid back atmosphere that the lamb cannot seem to help but create.
