A couple of friends recommended this place. And what a lovely place to be by the canal. Sitting at the back you would be forgiven to think that you were anywhere but the back of Kings cross station! I ordered the avocado and poached eggs on toast (with bacon). Sensational! Practically a whole avocado on each toast! Well seasoned with salt and chilli flakes. Definitely a place worth visiting especially when there’s a lovely little second hand bookshop nearby on a boat!
I’ll start with the positives…This is a nice, airy bar with decent outdoor space that gets the afternoon sun. We sat downstairs in the canalside area. Although we didn’t manage to get a table outside we sat near the open, wall-length doors and benefited from a lovely breeze, still getting views of the canal and longboats gliding past. The cocktail menu is great and reasonably priced. We ordered several different ones and they were all delicious, especially the Collins. Now onto the not-so-positives…This place was really let down by the table service. Bar service was fine but the table service was terrible. It was was painfully slow (we were ordering in late-afternoon, in the less busy time between lunch and dinner rushes so that wasn’t the issue) as the servers seemed more interested in chatting than serving. We were never actually asked if we wanted to order food – we asked for menus at the bar and were surprised to be told it was table service, as we’d been there for a couple of hours by then! It then took forever to get someone to actually take our orders…The food did come pretty quickly, but I ordered a veggie burger but they brought it with mayonnaise instead of the barbecue sauce I’d requested; this wasn’t the end of the world as it was on the side so I simply asked for BBQ sauce again. However, they took so long to bring it that I’d eaten half the burger by that time (not wanting it to get cold, nor sit there whilst my friend ate), THEN they added it to the bill! Seriously?! It was a tiny splodge of sauce and a charge was not mentioned at any time.I would possibly go back if I was in the area as maybe it was just an off day and I like to give places a second chance. However, the terrible service did leave a bad taste in our mouths that the cocktails unfortunately couldn’t make up for. morethangreens.com
Looks beautiful inside and out. We were seated promptly in the early evening but it took a while before our orders were taken. Had the squash and red onion tartin which was too sweet and the sweet potato burger. Disappointingly, it was just a few slices of sweet potato, mushroom and halloumi cheese rather than a patty. Saying that, it was satisfying. The sticky toffee pudding was excellent. Would come back again with a friend to have that with a coffee
