One of the nicest pubs in Highgate village – went here on a Sunday and it was a nice cosy atmosphere. The roast dinners looked lovely but opted for fish and chips which did the trick. Nice Gastro pub so you do pay a little more.

Handsome pub. We ordered some small dishes, and I was surprised by how good the food was. I had chargrilled smoked chicken wings with ginger ale ketchup and a side salad of watercress and parmesan.Chicken wings with grill marks were lovely, with just a little drizzle of the sweet sauce. At first I thought pricing was a bit steep for 5 wings, according to the menu. But each wing was complete with both a flat and drummette so it was actually a really good portion for 5.50. Care had been taken with the side salad. Watercress, thick shavings of parmesan, dressed in good quality balsamico (thick and unctuous) instead of vinaigrette. Light and refreshing. My companion was less pleased with his order of vegetable croquettes. They were tasty, but did not arrive piping hot.

We went in for a traditional Sunday lunch. There was obviously a large party going on at the end of the pub and it clear straight aways that they took precedence as customers. On the menu the roast pork dinner was described lavishly so we ordered two. Problem #1 `was that the waitress didn’t speak very good English and we would have been served with two ‘nut roasts’ had I not have spotted her error. The dinner arrived quickly, as did problem #2, which was that the portion of pork was incredibly small and there was no crackling as promised on the menu. When I queried this I was told ‘we’ve run out of crackling’. Didn’t stop them selling it to us though and shamelessly taking our money without mentioning this fact to us.Problem #3 was that my daughter ordered sausage and mash which arrived a full 20 minutes after we had finished eating our watery lunches. After sitting and watching her eat it we asked for the bill; my wife told the manager that we believed we had been short-changed with our food. It was obviously, she said, that we had been served the leftovers of the roast pork. He brazenly agreed but we struggled to get him to give us money off the bill for a really, really disappointing experience.First and last time that I will ever go here. There are far better places around in Highgate if you want to save yourself a truly terrible experience I advise you to steer clear of this place.
