Where do I start?. If you want to watch staff running around like headless chickens in an atmosphere of total chaos ( obviously none of the staff are trained ), ask for the same item more than once and never receive it, finally end up with greasy food and then when you come to pay there is no record of your order then Playwrights is definitely the place for you. Customer care Nil. Quality of food Nil. How has it survived ten years?
Mexican Experience. I recently went to Playwrights for it’s Mexican Night which takes place once a month on a Saturday. The place was packed and the atmosphere was fantastic with great food to match. The menu was surprisingly authentic, with all of the dishes home made. Energetic, friendly staff and plenty of tequilla!!We have rebooked for the next one. Definately one to recommend.
Playwrights. Went to Playwrights with friends over from USA. The new owner (Nicola ) went out of her way to accomodate 10 of us. The service was excellent and food first class and delivered all about the same time.Any questions regarding the menu were answered politely and because we had brought friends in from USA we were given a complimentary round of drinks.Nicola then went on to tell us about her plans for the bar and even took on board comments we made. She really seems to have ambition and i wish her all the best for the future. in these hard times it is good to see a young girl having a go at a small business. GOOD LUCK TO YOU…….
New Ownership. As of 1st of March 2010 Playwrights Cafe Bar and Bistro will be under new ownership. We will be keeping the same traditional style Bistro menu with a few updates. Hopefully the fish pie wont be ‘bland’ and the burgers wont be like ‘rubber’!
Burger was so tough, like eating a shoe. Slow service, depressing music.
Not a bad little place for a bite of lunch nice selection at reasonable prices.
It’s a shame, fairly good location central Cov not far from old cathedral, nice chic-shabby decor, reasonable waiter service, biggish wine list…..food very disappointing. The Homemade fish pie is bland, possibly made with ‘job lot’ frozen fish pieces. A fish pie ain’t a fish pie without smoked haddock and I have ordered this dish on a couple of occasions sadly no smoked fish….all this topped by a sad slushy dollop of mash. The salads named on the menu are not what you will get on your plate…on this occasion my house salad lacked 4 main ingredients. My partner ordered the pasta with a basil and tomato sauce. The tomato sauce had a grey tinge to the dull ruddy sludgy sauce. The reason for this scathing criticism is the general pricing of the menu is slightly above average therefore it would not be too much to assume that the food should be presented to customer looking edible and made with the right ingredients. Nice restaurant shame about your food.
