I chose this restaurant which was half empty. I chose the lunch set menu vegetarian with. The taste was alright. If you like to have Vietnamese food, then this is your place. I enjoyed eating food in this restaurant.
Very disappointingAfter reading many positive reviews me and my wife decided to give a go to Vu Viet. We are fond of oriental cuisine and vietnamese food and this seemed a good spot to enjoy it. We arrived at 2 a.m. and there were only a couple seated in the patio with a movable roof that was open. First impression was good, the atmosphere was nice although imho the smell of flowers was a bit overwhelming. The waiter arrived and without cleaning the table (there were some leaves fallen from the surrounding plants) he just put some napkins a two pair of chopsticks on the table which was a bit sticky. We ordered Muc Rang Muoi (Chilli crispy squid with garlic & sweet chilli dip 6.90), Cua Rang Me (Soft shell crab young crab, native to Vietnam, in light batter with ginger lemon dip 6.70), Vit Chien Don (Half Aromatic crispy duck with fragrant spices with cucumber, spring onions, pancakes and plum sauce 15.00), Rau Cai (Pak choi stir fried with ginger, garlic and soy 6.50) and 2 Tiger beer (7.00).The good: The crispy squid and the soft shell crab were average, not bad but also nothing that would wow you (btw you can eat much better soft shell crab at Au Lac 82 Highbury ParkLondon N5 2XE).The beers. The bad: The pak choi was simply awful, four or five leaves with a lot of core that was almost woody, absolutely inedible and it didn’t looked fresh at all. We told the waiter, we even invited him to taste it to have a first-hand experience but he refused saying that he had it the day before and it was superb, and he replied that the dish was fresh and NOBODY ever complained about it.The duck was served already shredded/chopped (this never happened to me before, it could have been scraps from previous clients), stone cold and dry, it didn’t looked fresh either. The spring onions were full of dirt as if they hadn’t been washed, we complained to the waiter who took them away and returned with fewer spring onions meaning that he just removed the dirty ones. The pancakes were served in the classic bamboo basket which contained not only the pancakes but also bit of green unidentified vegetables, i.e. dirty. After eating a couple of pancakes we noticed that the remaining had a strange yellowish/greenish stain, so dirty again. When we complained to the waiter he said that he would tell the chef! The service. What else to say, oh yes, when we were going to pay the bill they didn’t ask if we were pleased, so we asked if they wanted a bit of feedback, but they weren’t interested (but we told them anyway). They didn’t take a penny of the bill and only when we were by the door they said, without much conviction, sorry about that.So basically we ended up eating just the crab and the squid for which we paid 44.10.Avoid at all cost.
