Something that seems so simple like an English breakfast shouldnt be overlooked. Yes I know its full of calories and greasiness but there is just this one. Thats so ground breaking in London.Heading to the quieter quarter of Hoxton, passing parks, hairdressers etc. You get to Hoxton Market; the long stretch of road is filled with goodies. A mixture of quirky shops, restaurants, cafes and market stalls. At one end of that long stretch of road is The Ginger Pig caf; they used to be at The Eagle in Farringdon road, which I missed out on when I was working in the area. The Ginger Pig is exceptionally busy every time I pass by; my stomach had always been full. The chance finally came on a Sunday, with its wooden furniture and almost gastro pub setting. You have a choice to sit anywhere, as long as its free. The plate of meats, poach eggs and tomato finally arrived, accompanied with a slice of toasted bread. I ordered extra portion of chips on the side, as I thought the half monty wouldnt fill me up. Im not usually a big fan of bacon, but this one slice tasted so good. You can taste the farm to table freshness from that piece, and the sausage was equally superb. Prior to ordering you have a choice of ways to have your eggs. My mood was poached eggs style, the pure white sheets enveloped the yolks, piecing into the middle the yolk juice runs in an instant. Chips were piping hot, one bite of those perfectly cooked chips and your mouth wont stop. The Ginger Pig caf left me very satisfied; you can tell the dishes are prepared using local sourced ingredients. It is well worth the trek to Hoxton market for some grub from this insatiable caf. thefoodconnoisseur.co.uk

There are many places in East London to get a decent brunch these days but the Ginger Pig caught my eye with their menu a while ago and so me and my friend Alison went for a brunch date there the other day.The Ginger Pig Caf, is, oddly enough, not affiliated with the famed Ginger Pig butcheries. I do find it weird that they have chosen to name themselves so closely to something that already exists but the butchers dont seem to mind.Judging by their breakfasts though, The Ginger Pig are some serious meat lovers, and pig is indeed the flavor of the day.We had been salivating over the menu online and were a little disappointed to see that it wasnt the same as what was on offer on the day. My friend in particular had liked the look of the Mexican huevos rancheros, and I thought the grilled halloumi and poached egg sounded nice but neither of them were on the printed menu. Neither were the many varieties of eggs we thought would be on offer (benedict, royale, omelette). But in my heart I think I would have ordered what I got anyway as it has been so long since Ive had pancakes and I love the sweet/savoury combination of pancakes, maple syrup, eggs and bacon. So I ordered the lumberjack two pancakes, two pork and leek sausages, three bacon rashers, two fried eggs, and some ham!Alison at the very last minute decided to get the full monty eggs how you like them, sausage, bacon, black pudding, beans and mushrooms. And toast.I got a bloody mary, she got an aperol spritz and we waited. We actually waited quite a while but I didnt mind, taking it as a sign it wasnt all pre-cooked and just sitting there waiting to be ordered. We both savoured our cocktails. My bloody mary was a generous serve and lasted me the whole meal at 4.50 you cant afford not to have one! When it arrived we were confused. Where were Alisons mushrooms? Where were the beans? The waitress had said something as she set them down but we couldnt make out what so we enquired. Turns out, these come separately because, rather than give you a handful of each, you get a full dish of both to go on the side! The portions were actually verging on ludicrous. Yet, as youll see, a valiant effort was made to eat it all.The brunch was a top notch breakfast pancakes were great and there was the right amount of maple syrup to last. For the money you pay I think youll be hard pressed to find a heartier meal anywhere. I almost finished it but left some of my ham (its not my favourite cut of pork and three kinds of pig on one place is more than enough!). If I had to gripe I would say just what Ive said maybe there isnt a need for so much meat. A hash brown instead would be nice. And I prefer scrambled eggs and streaky bacon with my pancakes (I think its the more American way) but I enjoyed it thoroughly nonetheless. The sausages were fantastic really full of flavor and I tried to make them last as long as I could.I was stuffed by the end of it. jaminaward.wixsite.com

Fed up. For the past 12 months this has been my fav eatery in london by a mile… I recommend it to all and sundry..However, I brought friends last evening to find the menu has reduced considerably, with the odd exception of a few specials it was mostly burgers. The menu is confusing at the best of times, quite often things aren’t available, but as the food is so good this is forgiven, but this is now just plain ridiculous..We were really disappointed so we left.. I was to bring other friends there next week but have now decided to go elsewhere. I have no idea why the powers that be mess around like this, the menu is such an important thing, but in this restaurants its a mess and the weakest link… You guys are going to lose customers with this…
