Better than average dim sum and good service. Xiao long bao was good as was the cheung fun. In an area with few decent local restaurants this is one to visit.
Good yum cha place just off canary wharf with each patron given a sheet to choose what they want. Servings are quite small though but good quality and doesn’t taste like there is a lot of MSG. Recommend to book!
Giant floating restaurant reminiscent of the ones found in Hong Kong’s Bay areas, offering a myriad of dishes and an array of cooking styles. In truth this is a poor relation offering below par food to lots of people at a time. The themed mock-Chinese decor is more of an attraction than the food. You get plenty of food for your money and it fills you up, but keep the Chilli Oil and the Soy Sauce handy as you are going to need them to down the sterile food. The ‘Yi-Ban’ restaurant in the nearby Royal Docks is a much better bet and offers a more sophisticated waterside fine dining experience. They also offer decent Dim Sum. Asianhawk says: this Lotus does not bloom. Go to Yi-Ban or head west.Limited Halal Menu.
Food isn’t spectacular, but it is very filling. Bit pricey, but manageable. The view is incredible – that’s if you’re given a window seat of which my boyfriend and I were politely given when we entered. Can be noisy, this is during the evening on a weekend however, so makes sense, but food arrived swiftly. Nonetheless, the presentation could’ve been a lot better, a bit neater. The starters was a bit of a mess with the spring rolls, prawn toast, ribs and seaweed just thrown on a plate – and for the price, we kind of expected more. No worries though, this was made up by our main meals which we actually couldn’t finish. White wine was exquisite, forgive me, I can’t remember the name…something Bay. But anyway, to summarise, the view was breathtaking, the food, well, my local would’ve been a great choice too *shrugs*
Well, given a choice, I would prefer Chinatown/Soho I guess, but Lotus is really quite impressive – especially their dimsums. And the fact that it’s a 10 min walk from where I live makes it super convenient. Makes me wonder why I don’t head there more frequently, though…this is the only Chinese restaurant I’ve been to in London which serves (much to my wife’s delight) stir fried babycorn! That’s the only reason where she might say OK to a meal out at lotus – despises Chinese restaurants otherwise for the sheer lack of vegetarian options, and relatively bland veg dishes. Oh well..Head there for a leisurely Sunday brunch! You will not be disappointed.I would rate the dimsums better than Royal China, in the neighbourhood. And oh – definitely cheaper overall. You end up spending 20-22 quid a head when out in a group over Royal China vs 15-18 pounds here.
Definitely don’t miss out on this place, superb Chinese restaurant floating in the inner Millwall Dock. We always had sensational service and simply delicious yum cha, which we actually thought was surprising, but it certainly made us visit quite a few times. Prices also good and the novelty of being on a boat also interesting, not sure what the chefs thought in the basement…
