We had our team Xmas lunch at work, ordering from the Xmas menu. To reserve for the Xmas menu you need to make a non refundable deposit of 10 a head and order in advance.I started with cured trout which was nice but a small portion of three thin strips of fish. The prawn croquette was tiny too, only a little larger than a thimble. One strip of pickled cucumber. Others starters at the table with mushrooms on toast and terrine looked more generous.I think the fish dishes are just generally small here, because my colleague who ordered the cod main thought her dish was quite small. The best looking main on the table was the short rib of beef. Most of us got the Xmas turkey main with all the classic trimmings and there were plenty of complaints. Our plates deviated from the description on the menu. Instead of pigs in blankets there was a slice of griddled pork. There was no bread sauce. There were some roast parsnips and carrots which were not on the menu accompanying the brussels sprouts which were. There was very little gravy. Our event organizer showed staff a printout of the menu. The waitress explained that the bread sauce has been incorporated into the stuffing. We were each brought a glass of prosecco to compensate for the misunderstanding about the menu. When my colleagues continued to moan we were eventually brought some undercooked pigs in blankets and overly stiff bread sauce.Desserts were quite good. I got the chocolate and praline pudding whch was actually more of a rich chocolate mouse. A little too sweet for my taste. The honey comb garnish was salted, which added a nice contrast both in flavour and texture.
