• Why Waste Annual Leave?

  Went here a couple of weeks ago as part of a large group for Sunday lunch. The interior is homely, cosy and accommodating to large groups, famillies – an ideal Sunday lunch pub. There is ample parking and a few outdoor seats. The area at the back is nicely tucked away and there were a couple of private parties going on at the time, including ours.We shared some bread and olives to start with, which was nice enough though nothing to write home about. Most of the group opted for a meaty Sunday roast. My husband went for the roast leg of lamb and although he felt the lamb was a little overdone, his main complaint and the main complaint of nearly everyone who had a Sunday roast was the fact that the roast potatoes were undercooked, so much so that the majority of people left all of them. With something like roast potatoes, which are such a staple part of a Sunday roast, I can never understand how a pub churning out so many Sunday roasts can get it so wrong – perhaps they are rushed to get orders done on time but I was glad I didn’t opt for the roast as I’d have felt cheated not to have had nicely done potatoes.Instead, I opted to go for the healthier option that day with a butternut squash, beetroot, rocket and goats cheese salad. This was creamy, generously-portioned, a good proportion of each ingredient and left me full and happy so for once, I think I ordered best!We were all quite full but decided to order some teas and desserts to share. The sharing plate included brownies, sticky toffee pudding, salted caramel ice cream, apple and blackberry pudding amongst others.I have a bit of a sweet tooth and so it doesn’t usually need to be gourmet to impress me but I must admit I was very disappointed with the flavour. Again, pub staples like sticky toffee pudding were soggy, unpalatable textures and even with such a large group of us, much of it got left over. The brownies were a little on the dry side and all in all, the meal seemed a little disappointing to most of us. Furthermore, when I was given a cup for my tea, the cup looked dirty with stains on the inside and this had obviously not been noted by the staff, leaving me to ask for a new one.It wasn’t a terrible meal by any means but it was very un-memorable and isn’t somewehre I would opt to return to for a Sunday lunch. whywasteannualleave.com
