We came for a drink after a Saturday night meal in Angel. Even though they were fully booked, they offered us the option of having a drink standing in the corner. We were happy to do this. Within five minutes of ordering they found us a seat at a table that had cancelled. We had the toffee apple fizz and the white almond bellini. Both were amazing! We couldn’t decide which was better. We were left alone to sip our drinks and chat. Our water glasses were topped up regularly without us even noticing.Lovely place, good atmosphere, good music in the background, impeccable service and beautiful cocktails at reasonable prices. We will definitely be visiting again.Thank you Tony Conigliaro and team 🙂

Simply one of best speakeasys in London. Amazing atmosphere, good music and clientele. The cocktails are possibly the best I had in London. Just beware of waiting times. Book in advance.

Mr K. Terrible, terrible, terrible. Keep in mind I used to love this place, way back when there was the spirit of the founding bartender in the place. Now it feels like a speakeasy theme bar, with the piano and the small glasses on napkins and jazz theme music, only now staffed by what looked like under-aged bartenders loudly boasting about which girl they were shagging (yes really). And the drinks – if the rest didn’t seem cynical enough it gets worse. For anyone who has had a classic cocktail, made with pride, filled with generosity and with a genuine understanding of the craft, which this place apparently sells itself on, well you’ll want to drown your anger with cheap pints of Stella. You can pontificate all you like about paprika bitters or distilled clay, but if you can’t make a proper Old Fashioned, Sidecar or Negroni then its just increasingly obvious you’re a cynical theme-scam. Don’t fall for it, please.

Emperor’s New Clothes. We found nothing to commend this bar. When we arrived, it was very busy and we were asked to wait on teh stairs that lead up to the toilets. We were told that a table would be ready in about 20 mins. Or at least that’s what I thought we were told because the acoustics in this tiny place are awful and the sound level was deafening. Conversations could only be held at a full shout. We were asked if we wanted a drink as we waited on the stairs, but we didn’t think that the background disinfectant was what we had in mind to accompany a Dry Martini. We got a couple of seats within 20 mins but it was cramped and mightily uncomfortable. All of this could be forgiven for top drawer cocktails, but when I asked what the house gin was for a Dry Martini, I was hoping for something a bit more upmarket than Beefeater. I ordered a Tanq 10 with a twist and my partner had a Death in Venice. When they arrived, I thought it was a joke – it was doll’s house portions and the cocktails were mediocre. My Martini had been on the ice too long and was watery. Duke’s, Rules & The Connaught and The American Bar all do great Martinis, but this was about the same as the Empire Casino – OK, but definitely second league. I can’t speak for my partner’s, but she wasn’t impressed as she said the taste of the bitters overwhelmed everything else. The biggest joke though was the bill – over 25 for 2 drinks, 13.50 of which was for my Martini. I think Dukes is nearer 16, but I never remember because the quality is so high. The Empire Casino is 7 for the same and I don’t resent paying that either; but 13.50 means that this bar will be a flash in the pan with the fickle trend chasers while those that enjoy quality will make a single visit and not return.

Over rated. Don’t bother booking, even for ten people they expect you to squash around two tiny tables. At one point three of us had to share two chairs! Unbelieavble! The cocktails are nothing special!

Over hyped. I believed this place was just a cocktail bar I had no idea they had food as well. I understand that this place has a great reputation for cocktails and that the owner/head bartender won a prestigious award for his cocktails, but I didn’t see any evidence of this on my visit. The cocktail i had was ok, but nothing to write home about. the bar itself is cold and soulless and the service mediocre. The barman was having a whale of a time entertaining to ladies at the bar and after serving my drink completely ignored me even when the ladies left which resulted in the lack of a tip.

Cheeky. Didn’t eat there. thought it was only a cocktail/wine bar.Sat at the bar and ordered a dirty martini. The barman (Owner?) poured a WHOLE MEASURE of Vermouth into the shaker along with the vodka. the result was foul.Second visit (yes!?) I met a friend there. We sat at the bar and had a few drinks and when time came to pay, the cocktail waitress brought our bill and presented it to us from behind the bar. With a service charge added?Third visit. Not going to happen.
