If you’re looking for that something extra special and you want to impress, this maybe what you are looking for. Fine dining in Islington.Crisp white linen clothe, glasses gleaming and restaurant set out beautifully. Food is presented well and stunning. My seabass was cooked to perfection with al dents vegetables on the side. Staff attentive but not intrusive. Expensive.
This place was quite expensive for the location, service and quality of the food. It was nice but not wow but ends up around 80/head for a cocktail and a two course meal & shared dessert. Food quality was overall nice though.
We had dinner here with a group of seven last week. We pre-booked, it wasn’t busy and we weren’t impressed. Terrible service. That’s why I’ve given this place such a low rating. Don’t get me wrong the food is amazing – but for the price it should be. Just don’t expect to get seated with asking, multiple times! Bring your own water as you’ll be parched. Once we had a drink with our entree that was it – we struggled to get any other drinks for the remaining two courses. And the kicker – a 12.5% service charge on a sizeable bill, which just left us puzzled over what service we were paying for. Again, the food was great – pricey but great.
Nice!. Love this place. Excellent French food, nice atmosphere and great staff. One of the best places in Islington to eat, and always reliable.
Another Year. Another Chocolate Week. For the third year running we have made Almeida a destination during Chocolate Week to indulge in the specially designed menu based around Paul A Youngs chocolate. It was a four course menu, the first two courses worked really well. The Yorkshire wood pigeon breast, spiced lentils, crispy shallot rings, with wild voatsiperifery pepper chocolate was a great start, and the Baked wild brill, cocoa nib and herb crust, sauteed spinach, wild mushroom and Duffy’s 70% star of Peru chocolate veloute was also very good . The main course of Denham estate venison, root vegetable and chilli chocolate casserole and the dessert of Intense chocolate tart and white chocolate ice cream were less successful. The service here is always friendly, but like earlier visits it occasionally comes across a bit disorganised. This time the disorganisation manifested itself with the attempted delivery of our starters before we had actually ordered. Our table was ordering from both the normal chocolate menu and the vegetarian menu, so unless the chef was psychic there was no way that was going to work. Fortunately the problem was quickly rectified and a lovely evening was had by all. noexpert.co.uk
