We attended when they had just opened so service, though warm and friendly, was still a little chaotic. In nice weather we preferred to sit outside because music inside is rather loud. The duck bastilla was not traditional. More a deep fried spring roll with bastilla filling than a phyllo pastry baked pie. Grilled squid which we didn’t order and were not charged for was fantastic. In fact everything grilled was fabulously smokey and done over charcoal. A fresh dressing with chilli, coriander and lime was a lovely contrast. Next came a portion of hake tagine which we also didn’t order. Very nice too, with a chargrilled piece of hake sitting on a zingy tomato sauce containing some braised aubergine and fennel. Stuffed mackerel with roasted red pepper and tomato was satisfyingly sweet.Highlight of our order was the monkfish kebab. Smokey and served with a salad decorated with pomegranate seeds. There was also some good humous, harissa, pickled cauliflower, and pickled radish on the plate. There was also flat bread on the side.A really nice take on mezzes with a focus on North Africa instead of the more commonly represented Levant. All of the food very well executed with exceptional grilled dishes.
