I decided to counter the rain and the saturday craziness going for a sunday roast in the Camden Passage. I’ve been already here few times but I never gave a try to the roast and now I’m regretting all those lost opportunities! The place is cozy, either floors give a lovely vibe, and the outside area is a treat on sunny days, while the staff is friendly and fast, even after a saturday night. The roast menu consist only on roast beef with all the trimmings, but it’s absolutely delicious, tender and juicy, and a good portion too. I decided to add a portion of sweet potato fries on top of it and I was having problems with my belt after it 😉 The prices are a good match for the quality and quantity as expected from a Taylor Walker pub. I’m ready for the next weekend!!
laid back pub down Camden passage in Angel – has an outside area for when the sun shines and they show comedy upstairs at certain points throughout the year – nice relaxed venue to chill out with friends.
One of my favourite places to go on a night out in Islington. The atmosphere is upbeat, the comedy nights are worth attending and you always get your drinks fairly quickly, even on a busy night. If you want to grab a bite to eat before your drinking binge begins, the food there is good but it’s not a must. It’s standard British Pub food and you can get the same quality elsewhere for a few quid cheaper. My usual order the Veggie Fish (battered hallumi) and Chips for 8.69.One minor flaw is that despite the fact that I can always manage to find a seat , the place can become so crowded that it can be a bit overwhelming, even though there are two floors and a terrace area. The comedy nights every night at 8pm are a must see there, with the Friday and Saturday shows being my favourite (although the busiest).
Great for a sunny afternoon- but if you’re after a feed, turn around and head out the door. Staff are friendly and service is fairly quick but there is a bit of dirty vibe that doesn’t quite edge on the hipster. BUT free comedy upstairs each night does make it an easy and enjoyable spot for a casual night out. londonbrekkies.wordpress.com
This place has a terrible smell that hits your as soon as you walk in. It is extremely overpriced, even taking the area into consideration. The food is especially overpriced considering they are essentially microwave meals. The management don’t appear to ‘manage’ their staff and appear cold and disinterested. The stout girl who was introduced to me as their ‘team leader’ was rude, brusk and appeared far too immature to be put in charge of anything. The only redeeming feature is their outdoor area but even that isn’t enough to make me consider going their again.
The Camden Head as a pub is a little lacking in character, leaning more towards the ‘uncomfortably packed’ than the ‘cosy and bustling’ side of my sliding scale. It is somewhere I would prefer to visit during the day when things are a little less busy and the weather permits me to sit outside. Tucked off a main road in Angel the stretch of antique shops and cafes it sits on have remind me of being in a pleasant village if I’m feeling particularly imaginative. However, one aspect would draw me to the building at night and that is its regular comedy showings in the upper room which, if you can get a seat, provide a top notch evening with a pint of beer to boot. The food is pretty average but decent enough for the price they charge. Also, though the Camden Head isn’t ideal, if you’re in Angel for the evening, it’s probably the lesser of two evils when it comes to picking a place to drink.
The Camden Head has two floors so if it is full downstairs or on the terrace (it probably will be) you can still find some seating. It is located in the pedestrian camden passage and it is a good place to stop after doing the brocante on the week end. For Lunch they have very special prices that are attractive. Then the menu is just a classical Pub one. I had the banger and mash, it was very good but stay away from it if you are not a big fan of gravy. Then we went for a glass of wine on the terrace. The atmosphere was great and the crowd was very friendly. An other good pub to discover in the area.
