Little Gem in Camden Passage. Hungry and frustrated I googled a nearby restaurant and just happened upon this one. My husband was quite late for dinner, but I was seated at the end one of their wooden tables and had a chance to cool off while I sipped on an English Garden Martini. While my husband was on his way I ordered him a Bourbon Growler, and the touch of smoked bacon was enough to life his spirits. The service was relaxed, the atmosphere funky, and we both quickly forgot our stressful days and settled in to a wonder dinner. I ordered the home smoked duck in cherry wood and orange peel, braised chicory, sauted potato, bird gravy and pickled cherries, which was tender and pickled cherries were amazing. Hubby ordered the Danish frikadeller, roast pork chop, gherkins, apple sauce and mormors warm potato salad and a shot of gammel dansk, which was fantastic except he didn’t care for the gammel dansk. We like it so much, we made reservations a few weeks later when we met with out of town guests.
Cute and satisfying. Came for a late brunch with friends and was spoilt for choice with a reasonably extensive menu. The food was ok, however the chips didn’t hold their heat well and became cold and chewy rather quickly. Unfortunately the staff were unhelpful, and the zombie girl that served us looked like she would rather be anywhere else but there, which on a Sunday morning is almost understandable, but was put a damper on our visit. I will probably go back to try more of the menu, but if you’re not a fan of slow and extremely unenthusiastic service, maybe give this one a miss.
Loved this place. We stumbled onto this place, being here for a short stay only, and loved everything about it. The food, the service, the decor, did it for our table of 3. Can only speak very highly of this place and wish I was IStaying in London for longer to try more dishes.
Worst service in London. I’ve always liked The Elk, but won’t ever be back after a shocking experience there this week.We were shown to a table and then, an hour or so later, the waitress presented us with our bill and told us we had to leave as the table had been booked and the customers would be arriving in ten minutes. We told her that we didn’t know the table had been booked and wouldn’t have ordered a bottle of wine if we did. She left and then a particularly surly waiter came to our table, who, rather than apologise for the breakdown in communication or suggest some sort of compensation for the inconvenience, told us we had to move to a communal table or leave. He raised his voice, rolled his eyes and said that he couldn’t understand why we were being so awkward. When we repeated again that the booking was news to us, he threatened us and told us he’d make us leave if we didn’t vacate the table. We were rather shaken by the experience. Being spoken to like this is unacceptable on every level – particularly in the service industry.
The Breakfast Club Backup. Nice cocktails, if you wait long enough. Glad it introduced us to a now favourite Elderflower.Service was really slow.Thought the breakfast was good but prehaps not blown away.Decent understudy to the Breakfast Club.
I had been meaning to try the Elk in the Woods for some time but having visited last night will not be rushing back. I had quail wrapped with bacon which was ok although I had to ask for a pair of scissors to cut through the string which had been used to secure the meats together. This request seemed to shock our surly waitress who had already told us dismissively that someone else would be looking after our table after I had greeted her on arrival. The chips that i ordered as a side got cold and nasty pretty quick too. When my date’s salad turned up (undressed) we were already beginning to lose our patience and when we enquired about returning it were asked did we ask for it without feta. We had not. No dressing and missing an ingredient. Overall very disappointing and nowhere near as good as you’d hope and rude service really lingers and does nothing to encourage a repeat visit. the Malbec was good after it had been open for a bit – but you’d expect that for 30 a bottle When my date’s sa
Great breakfast for two for under 20. Two eggs, bacon, local sausage beans, toast and tea. Fab!
