In Essex road this place looks like an old pharmacy from the outside. Insude you find a cosy, low light ambience and some good music. The cocktail list is vast and based in different kinds of spirits presented in different types of glasses. Until 7pm they often have the happy hour where you can drink 2 for the price of one. A very good option for a cocktail bar in Islington.
We popped in here to kill an hour or two while waiting to head to stoke newington to lose at a game of thrones quiz. We’d passed it a few times and it being so local and being the fabulous cocktail connoisseurs we are thought we need to try this, immediately!First impressions when we walked through the door were good, we got a really energetic welcoming from the bar staff who shouted hello and waved. Most of the tables were reserved but we were pointed to the ones that were free and given a menu, happy hour means two cocktails for 10 which is good and likely the only time I’d go what with them ranging from 8-10 each. The music was upbeat and vague enough to be cool without being elite tosh. The cocktails, we had three. The fortune cookie which came in a little Chinese soup bowl with a cookie and chopsticks. It was refreshing but all I really got was passion fruit. The side parts made it interesting and fun to talk about. Then we had the butter beer which was both our favourites it was served in a traditional ale jug with a werthers original. It was buttery sweet and pretty brilliant. Far superior to the real butter beer they serve at Harry Potter world. Then we had bacon and egg, I mean a cocktail with bacon? I was all over that. The cocktail was a nice sweet and sour cocktail with maple syrup. The sliver of bacon and haribo egg laid on top for me was hilarious and I chomped them both before drinking the cocktail. However, it made my partner gag a little, it was the smell of bacon in the wrong context for her. Although once we got rid of the bacon it’s a decent cocktail. The staff were a little over the top for the time we were in there is the only downfall. There was one particle guy who dragged a woman in off the street and forced a menu on her only for her to scarper out the door when he turned around and he was over the top loud, jumping over the bar etc. I’m sure they are amazing when it’s busy but know your customers when there’s a handful of couples having a quiet drink maybe tone it down a bit. It didn’t ruin the experience at all and I’ll definitely go back down there and try to work my way through the list of drinks.Although I never found any of the other rooms!?? Well I guess it gives me a reason to go back!
