It’s got a lovely gin and craft beer dedicated menu. With the food – the portions are large, the flavors are all there — the goats cheese sandwich is especially good and the potato wedges with cheese and truffle oil are lovely. happybelly.org.uk
The Narrow Boat thrives in the summer due to its convenient location just of the canal. Punters can walk in straight after a stroll and order drinks that can be taken back out onto the canal in plastic cups. The place is swarming pretty much every time the sun shows its face. There are also to narrow balconies upstairs which look out on the canal, but be sure to book way in advance as they are always in demand. The bar is well stocked serving different lagers from local brewers like Camden Hells, to your classic Peroni. Theres also a great and well thought out wine list serving cheap and expensive white and red wines to suit any occasion. The place is very much a pub in that it doesnt serve any of the cocktails which seem to be popping up in most Islington drinking holes, but I personally prefer this back to basics approach. The food is delicious; the sharing platters are a great option if you are just looking for a snack to go with your drink; I would highly recommend the seafood plate which includes treats such as calamari and white bait, served with plenty of bread. Highlights of the mains menu include the chicken and pesto pasta which is subtle and delicious, and the steak, which at 22 is pricey but deliciously well cooked and comes with thick chips and indulgent onion rings. All in all I would recommend this place as it ticks all boxes, providing great food, drink and atmosphere.
What a fantasic time we had!. I would just like to say that I arranged my xmas work do at The Narrow Boat and it was wonderful. The entire party agreed that it was the best xmas meal we had ever had. The decor was really festive and as soon as we walked in we received a warm welcome from the staff who attended happily to all our needs. The menu was varied it was hard to choose but no one was disappointed and the portions were very generous. We are going to make sure we book early for this year as the organisation I work for many of the departments also had their xmas party there and they want to return as well. The Manager who took our booking was so helpful right down to the last detail and she made sure everything went smoothly. The staff who served our meals knew by name who was eating what which added a lovely personal touch to the occasion. Thank you to all at The Narrow Boat and we are also planning a summer party with you and we can’t wait!
Great location, great pub. I had my second Christmas party here and was really impressed with the place again. I was happy with my food and the mulled wine was amazing (everything is better when its free!), I had 2 vegans in my group and they were both satisfied with their 3 courses, I do think the fruit salad is a predictable one but it is like it everywhere. Its good pub food, not a vegan or vegetarian speciality but I dont mind.
Poor food for vegans. I went to the Narrowboat for the first time for my work’s Christmas meal. I am vegan and and had told the restaurant well in advance of this. Despite some initial confusion (the manager didn’t seem to know the difference between vegan and gluten free!), I was provided with a vegan menu a few weeks before we were due to eat there. The menu looked quite good, other than the predictable fruit salad for dessert! However, on the day, I was given a completely different starter – a really bland watery soup. For the main course I was supposed to have a mushroom hot pot. Well, there was a large bowl full of vegetables, including some slimy mushrooms in a broth – mmm soup again! Desert was, as expected, fruit salad and very boring. Plus, there was a small dish on top and when I asked what was in it, was told it was honey! Vegans don’t eat honey!
Only good for a beer. Stopped off here whilst walking along the canal. Food not very good, not seasoned, no taste at all. But very good for chillin’ outside by the canal drinking a cold beer.
Bad for vegetatians. Bad single vegetarian option. No vegan option at all.
