We love the Winchester.Food is great and delicious. Good portions. They have the 2 meals for one at lunch time, which is amazing. Not to expensive for a pub in Central London. Near the main street, shops and tube.Staff is lovely, nice and assertive. The pub is roomy, so you don’t have to invade the personal space of a stranger to have a meal. Has clean toilets, which is a big plus on my list. Good music, not to loud. All my experiences on the pub were great.
Sunday roast here is two for 20 and is top notch.Have also been here for a drink on a Friday night and was good fun – think you have to pay 5 to get in after 9/10pm.
Spent an evening here for my flatmates birthday. She hired out a space downstairs which was decorated, you can only say, like a garden shed. It was cute, a small but useable space that fitted over 20. Cocktails were well made and finger food was delicious.Only problem I would say is that there is nothing telling others that it’s a hired space.. We had quite a few wonderers who took up a table or too.. Luckily my flatmate didn’t mind!
I came to the Winchester last Saturday with some friends as we needed a place to cure our hangovers. We managed to get a nice booth table, and the atmosphere was just what we needed-chilled out music and friendly, smiley staff. We had some nice (pretty spicy) bloody marys and read the paper. We ordered the Winchester Cheeseburger, and it was amazing. Huge chips, tasty burger and a big slab of cheese. We did however sink into a burger coma, and so ended up spending most of the afternoon there! This place is great for relaxing with friends-and I recommend trying the burger coma for yourself!
Went here for a birthday meal on a recent Sunday -The service was absolutely terrible and the food wasn’t much better. At one point we had to order the same round of drinks 3 times before they were actually made. The staff really didn’t seem to care and when we complained we were told a manager would be in after 4pm but that manager never arrived. We were told the sunday beef was cooked medium rare/medium but it was horribly over done.Half the party including a pregnant woman ate their food without drinks and when we asked for them to be taken off the bill we were told they would only remove soft drinks. When the table was booked online no-one from the pub called us to confirm as indicated, instead we had to call twice to check we had a table. And when we called to get our deposit back and asked why it hasn’t been automatically returned, we were told it’s the customer’s responsibility to get the deposit back. This is a pub which is only after your money and doesn’t give a hoot about customer service.DO NOT TRY IT.
