Branca’s personal touch is their fresh rosemary topped focaccia served on a board with olive oil and vinegar, while you browse the menu. There is a good variety of options to feast on, including pastas, pizzas, meats, salads, and fish, with the option to choose the size of the starters/pasta/risotto/salad – the smaller portions being excellent value for money. My favourites from each course of the menu include the buffalo mozzarella, roasted pepper, with basil and almond pesto from the starters – a cold, refreshing appetizer, with the pepper roasted just enough to bring out the sweet flavour. The chestnut mushroom tagliatelle with spinach has a creamy, rustic flavour, and isn’t as heavy a meal as you would imagine. The thin-base pizza’s with generous toppings are great to eat in or take-away, especially with the half-half option, where you can choose two different options and go half with each. The chargrilled sea bream fillet with tomato salsa, served on a bed of pesto flavoured mash with pine nuts, seems to be a seasonal option, and one I keenly return for. The quality and taste of the food is consistently great, and with the branca food shop next door, you can purchase some great ingredients, as well as the focaccia bread. The restaurant has a contemporary, spacious and pleasant atmosphere with some great artwork on display, and an outdoor seating area around the back. The staff are very friendly and always accommodating of any specific requests – I usually like the virgin caipirinha without the ginger and extra elderflower, and any goats cheese replaced with mozzarella – they get it right every time.
Having previously come here before and had a good lunch – decided to come for brunch. Although initially friendly we had to wait an hour before our food arrived yet were repeatedly told it was on the way. Once it arrived there was no apology, mushrooms and toast were cold and all poached eggs were well done. They then also tried to charge us for mushrooms that we were told could have free initially instead of hash browns in breakfast. Would not come here again.
