Sojo is a landmark chinese restaurant in Oxford. Highly recommeneded by our next gen we decided to give it a try at lunch on a weekday. The menu briefs us on the entrepreneur behind the chain. Hats off to the gentleman from Hong Kong who gave Oxford three Chinese restaurants from the 1970s onwards. The ambience and decor are as expected. However what catches ones eye is the request on the menu urging patrons to go beyond the regular stirfry or sweet n sour.We tried the sweet corn chicken soup, hot and sour soup, the dim sum set for one, salt and pepper chicken wings, soft noodles and kung bo prawns. The dim sum set is large and quite filling especially the sticky rice dumplings. The noodles and the kung bo prawns were delicious. The tables started filling up around us soon. It is decidedly most popular.Attentive service.

One of the biggest difficulties of moving from Melbourne to Oxford has been the relative lack of good Chinese food in Oxford. Thankfully, Sojo does a decent job of providing authentic, homely Chinese cooking. We had the tomato and egg, and the Sojo black bean tofu, and both were tasty, without being overpoweringly flavoured (as can often happen at lesser Chinese restaurants). The jasmine rice was a little bit gloopy in texture and could have been fluffier. Staff were friendly and the restaurant environment was fine, although it did get quite loud at times because of a group down one end of the restaurant.

For me this is one of the best Japanese restaurant ever! So many days in Oxford have been spent wanting to eat here and many have been actually spent gorging at Sojo. It’s a small place walking distance from the railway station and by god the food is heavenly! Highly highly recommended.
