Very good food. Must go in Birmingham. They have managed to get each dish hit just the right spot. Juicy chicken tikka, fragrant rice, out of the world tandoori prawns. Worth every cent.
One of the Best Places in Birmingham to have authentic Indian food, I had butter Naan and paneer mutter, I must say it was sumptuous and mouth watering!
Oh well, I have dined at Ashas more times than I can count. It falls to your right as you walk up Newhall Street towards Newstreet Rail Station. The locality is perhaps the second best after Brindley Place which is adjoining the beautiful Birmingham canals. Nevertheless, the restaurant is very centrally located.I used to visit here mostly with my dad. The interiors are lavishly furnished but give off a somewhat nouveau riche vibe. The bar is large but so is the crowd. Most of the cliental seem to be professionals. Mostly, upper and technical middle class. For an Indian restaurant, you do see a lot of white faces. I know this may sound a bit strange but I mean it as a neutral statement. The ‘Cobra Beer’ seems to be a bit of an attraction amongst the cliental with non-indian background.Restaurant is pricey, especially in that I think there is an imbalance between the price tag and the food quality. The food is good, well you would not expect bad food from places like these…. But in an attempt to cater for a more subtle British palate, I think, their dishes lack that traditional Indian flavour. This was not the case is one dish, which I particularly liked, ‘Murg Makhanwala’.I think they try really hard to make the sort of Naan that melts away in your mouth but the poor guys end up making it ‘chewy’. A perfect soft, mildly crumbly Naan is hard to make, so they are not alone on this …They also have a convenient conference/dining room for corporate and other needs. I know this because the Indian Consulate arranged a dinner there. Surprisingly, the food tasted remarkably good when I was there with my father. Perhaps they changed it a bit to suit the Indian palate? haa?I think its certainly worth a visit but for a pernickety connoisseur of Indian food it may not live up to expectation …
When arrived was really excited, brilliant decor, really nice environment. Prices were ok nothing over the top, however had to wait 1.5 hours for our mains after our meal, when the food arrived it was ‘ok’ 2 members of our party found it dry and sent it back. Service was brilliant however, hopefully this was just a bad night as it did have the makings to be a brilliant place.
Asha’s – An authentic Indian menu. As the latest addition to legendary Bollywood singer Asha Bhosle’s empire, Birmingham has its very own ‘Brimful of Asha’ right here on Newhall Street. The restaurant recently won awards from the British Curry and Taste awards and continues to impress local foodies and celebrity curry connoisseurs. Whether you’re craving succulent meats from their specialty kebab menu or their authentic seafood and vegetarian dishes; Asha’s extensive menu never fails to impress : http://www.dinner-deals.com/venue/3926.htm
Good decor with expensive food.. Food itself isn’t spectacular..just normal Indian food…service is pretty good.. The cocktails and mocktails have some interesting flavours Guess here you are just paying for the famous singers name attached to it
Food was very bland, atmosphere was crap, waiting staff were very inattentive and there wasn’t a bitter available. My ‘mild’ starter was spicier than my ‘hot’ main, overall a waste of 33 for my meal.
