Could and should do better. Not all it’s cracked up to be, no doubt good quality ingredients but they need to think about how it’s put together to make it tasty! I would have liked to have been asked start I thought about it too!
I came here on a Friday night with a big group for drinks before going out, and the place catered perfectly. One of the best aspects of this pub is definitely the beer garden, where we sat until it closed at 11.30, but that was fine as the party had already started downstairs. It had a great, fun atmosphere with a DJ on who unapologetically played disco songs which people were happily dancing to. The drinks werent too expensive either, with a double vodka and tonic coming in at about 6. Would definitely recommend this place for an upbeat drinking experience with a big group of friends.
With so many lacklustre pub environments out there, the Abbey Tavern is a very satisfying and polished place to drink with friends in, though this is slightly undone by its somewhat limited selection of beers. When I visited, I chose the cheeseburger which was sublime – it actually looked like the kind of thing that only exists in stock photos used for restaurant menus it was so perfect. The portion of burger was generous and precisely cooked how I like it – medium rare. I think this a place to go for the full package just as long as you don’t mind sticking to Heineken!
I’m going to be honest with you: this place was a colossal disappointment. I was looking forward to it all week, excited by the glowing reviews of succulent meat and generous portions. Now I’m going to be really honest with you: you could probably make a better roast at home and there are certainly better places in London to get a good roast. From it’s miserly portions, overcooked beef and lamb that were tough and lacked any flavour and anaemic watery gravy. Gravy should be rich and unctuous, no? The service was also achingly slow and befuddled (not knowing how to make a bloody Mary in a pub is a little inexcusable). To be fair, the roast potatoes and parsnips were rather good. However, that did not detract from the feeling that you were being denied what could have been a good roast. Seek elsewhere.
Friendly place with great carribean food and an excellent rear garden. Good atmosphere, free wifi too which is handy.
I liked the huge windows and chipper staff. Great Caribbean menu. I loved the Ox Tail Stew with plantain for a relaxed Sunday lunch.
Bright sunny interior, eclectic Camden crowd. Nicer place to spend an afternoon than the trendier pubs in the area. Food was above average.
