After doing a bit of shopping with the lady (and I wasn’t forced either!) in the early morning, we felt a breakfast was in order! We were walking past the new developments around Lewisham underneath the bridge, we came across a quirky cafe, Maggie’s. From the outside, it looks quaint, not busy with a fee chairs and tables outside, during summer I can imagine it being a splendid place to have a seat.We walked in and it was so busy! We found ourselves a table and took a seat. Now, this is the big thing, if you’re feeling in a loud, bubbly, whole-family-over-christmas sort’ve mood, then come in and you’ll love it!It is family owned, and because the hustle & bustle reminds me of my family, I loved it, it was like being at nan’s for lunch/dinner! As we sat down, we were offered tea/coffee.. I chose coffee and the lady chose hot chocolate. May I add the coffee was ok and best of all free refills! We then each ordered jacket potatoes, myself with beans and cheese and she got it with cheese, beans, coleslaw and tuna! First time ever she had more food on the plate than me! HahaI finished mine, she was slacking so had to help and save the day! Also, you get a salad on the side with a bit of vinegar and salt, tasty.Good food, I have had better but good overall, the atmosphere is first class, the service is hectic but works! The chairs and design of place was not of my style have to admit but some might like it!
Everything is right about Maggies Cafe…………apart from the chips. Order wedges instead. I can cope with Mother’s pride type bread, I can cope with builder’s tea. I can not compromise on the chips. They are fries and not good.Apart from that the place is fantastic on atmosphere. Salt of the earth can not be imitated. People are good people here. You can dine alone or bring a group. You can get all the childhood meals that your ( or someone elses in my case) granny would make. My granny would make stuff with yams and green banana you see.
The customer service was exceptional you feel like you’re visiting a family friend rather than a cafe. With titan sized portions I would urge you to be careful as I’ve witnessed several fellow customers sit back in their seats and surrender to the power of Maggie’s cafe, their plates may have been half empty but their stomachs were full. Their bubble and Squeak is to die for and their unlimited supply of refillable Tea was an invaluable perk.Located just beside Tesco’s it’s a great stop to make before you proceed with shopping.
Best fry up is SE London. You can go for the ‘create your own ‘ breakfast that has more than 10items to choose from all at a set price. Id make this brunch rather than breakfast as you won’t be hungry again for a long time.
Great food, low prices for big portions. Extremely friendly staff
Not that great. The nice, noisy atmosphere and good vibes of this cafe is spoiled by the loud, tattooed waiter attempted to be ‘funny’ with crude innuendos and crappy, offensive jokes directed at the customers personally. Food is average to bad: the set meals are okay but eggs can come out solid, baked beans can taste like cigarette ash has been dropped in it. Oh, and beware mid-afternoon sloshing of the type of disinfectant normally used to clean public toilets on the dining room floor.
