Birthday treat. Arrived on time for a celebration at Ego restaurant to find that they had booked us for the following week. However, the manager found us a table in front of the musician, not the lakeside view we had requested. A bottle of house wine was offered for compensation, and a good wine too. It was very busy and noisy, conversation was difficult. The staff seemed hassled and charmless. The food was medioca and the portons small. We all had different dishes, I had the Morroccan lamb. Overall, we all where dissapointed about the amount and quality of the food. The bill came to 190 for five people, not good value either.
Disappointing. Surroundings and view to die for, but such poor food and such poor value for money. Unfortunately came away thinking we’d just paid a fortune for a nice view. And beware of service charge!!!
Having walked out of another restaurant in Lichfield for poor service/bad table etc, we walked straight over to Ego knowing that food and service would be great as ever! They rescued our wedding anniversary with some of the nicest wine/food/friendliness etc. Great atmosphere as ever even for a week night. They even accepted me showing them the obligatory 40% off voucher on my phone rather than demanding a paper copy. A truly memorable evening. Returning asap!
All the basics were wrong. Service was painfully slow for a Monday. I waited 15 mins from receiving the menu to someone taking my order. Olive oil and vinegar, simple right? Loads of vinegar, tiny amount of oil. Warm beer. Tired of waiting to pay the bill for this dreadful experience I had to go to the entrance to get waiting staff attention. Will not be going back.

However, the leopard has changed it spots! The new menu is F.A.B. and great value. We have been three times in the last month and now we take all our friends. The Calvados & Apple Pork and the chocolate fondants are to die for…Keep it up Ego!
Great place but not great food!. The location and decor of the restaurant is gorgeous. My expectations were satisfied by the delicious bread, balsamic vinegar and olives. However, although the main course was edible I would say they were not very tasty and fairly average. The service was slightly lacking too, they tried to deliver main course before having cleared the starters away so had to take main courses back to servery until table cleared. They would have to give me a really good offer to tempt me back.
Worth stopping in for the view. Above average service with a large range of food.
