I’m a fan of Oslo. Have had some great nights out here – love their line ups. The queues aren’t over the top, the teams are courteous and the music is topnotch. When my friend asked me to meet here for a daytime pint/snacks, I was surprised (due to hazy 2am memories) but it turned out to be just as good! Very relaxed vibe, with people mostly sitting outside on benches (I nearly fell off one but that’s another story). When I went to pick up my snacks (just chips or some such), I got to meet the team in the kitchen and they turned out to be really lovely and genuine. They go the extra mile to ensure the food is of decent quality and to your tastes, which I really appreciated. Everyone’s easygoing and can easily drop into a conversation with you, while just as easily leaving you to it, if that’s what you prefer.
Step up your game Oslo.. When I went, Oslo had admittedly only been open a week or so, so I really did try let most of this pass, but it was my birthday and I felt let down. They messed up my booking so my table of 12 were left standing for 20mins, then we were shown to a table that had been empty the whole time. We were surprised to learn they were only serving a Sunday roast which wasn’t specified on their website and nothing off the main menu. This would have been fine if it hadn’t been half the size a roast should be, much too pretentious at 15. Most of us paid 20 each to have unlimited Bloody Mary’s added, which should have been an excellent deal, but we only really had time for two per person (we were there for well over two hours) as the bar couldn’t keep up with the amount of Bloody Mary’s being ordered. I had to wait a full 40 minutes for my first one, when I asked where it was the waitress told me she would bump me to the front of the queue. So whereabouts in the queue was I after 40 minutes?? Very very disappointed. I hope they’ve improved since then.
Awful food!!. Food was simply terrible! salmon BLT starter was tasteless, the bread was the texture and taste of mighty white, smoked salmon was partially cooked – not warmed, watery tomatoes. The burger bun was stale, dry bread. Totally average burger itself. 35 ‘celebration’ of beef was a good steak with limp chips. The whole thing was just very 2 dimensional especially for the price. I would maybe go here for drinks but as a restaurant they are a massive fail. Go to Lardo instead.
BAD FOOD. Ate here recently and sorry to say the food was awful, especially given the price and local competition. I would like to say first that the staff were lovely and I do like the decor etc. but… 4 of us ate as a group and the starters were poor. I had some nut roast bites which were dry and tasteless with beetroot pure which was bland to say the least. One of my friends had the salmon BLT which was basically on cheap sliced white bread and also bland. As for the mains I ordered plaice which came virtually raw and on a bed of seaweed which was so salty I couldn’t eat more than one mouthful. I had to send it back (which I rarely do), after which I received a properly cooked piece of fish and the message ‘the seaweed is supposed to be that salty’! There’s no way you are ever going to taste plaice over that and I couldn’t believe this was deliberate. My friend had the celebration of beef which came with soggy chips and was underwhelming. Another friend had the burger which was overcooked and again bland. If you’re going to charge 14 for a burger it should be seriously good.I think even if the menu changes I won’t eat there again because many of the errors were just so rudimentary, it’s annoying when you pay as much as you would in an expensive restaurant to get given food like that.
