  What do you get if you mix a Geisha, rastafari calamari and a jazzy DJ in the Hackney empire? Yes, it left me with a few question marks as well but the bizarre eclecticism of Platterform at Stage 3 is somehow entirely appropriate.After three years of rooftop surfing, this pop up has a permanent location. Hello Hackney! We had dreadlocks and geishas, jazz tunes and prawn crackers and were surrounded by lanterns, birdcages and puppets.Viewing this Hackney hotspot was a piece of literature, it would be the ever-so highbrow heads, bodies and tails flip books circa the 90s with the giggles that each combination generates because the here, the crazy mix is wonderful.Popping along to their launch was therefore one of the better choices of the week, being treated to a delicious array of cocktails and a whistle-stop tour of their malasijamaicanese (?) menu.I’m still getting used to the notion that arriving on time means I will be at least half an hour early but in this case, it was a great opportunity to admire the venue in its pre-peopled state and have a little run down of the grand plans in store for Platterforms future now it has a more permanent spot with movie nights, free tai chi lessons, live music sessions and chef takeovers.The prawn cracker laden stall sat in the gloriously open windoors (camaaan summer) and sported lanterns, baskets and all manner of trinkets.The bar was stretched beneath the balcony where we had an excellent view of the activities below. My first cocktail was in slushy form and dropped me off somewhere appropriately exotic with its pineapple and coconut tones. We sat amongst fellow reviewers and their plus ones as we tucked into the offerings from the kitchen. I was a big fan of the butternut squash houmous while the Baba Ganuj (I maintain it’s spelling of Babba Ganoooooosh) won the show for one of my new companions. Inhalation of each dish resulted in some very satisfied diners.Thank goodness for my moral code which prevented me from attempting to run off with the aesthetically delightful ball glasses which our Dr Chai cocktail arrived in, another essential for ones drinks cabinet which I am now on the market for!The rastafari calamari was also a great hit (not just because of it’s excellent name)!With smiles all round and general admiration of the Geisha and her attire, we’ll definitely be back for more creative inspiration!Easily accessible by bus or overground, this is a great addition to Hackneys ever expanding array of unconventionally excellent options and Im pretty excited to make like Columbus and explore some more! littlebrownbooks.blogspot.com
