I went down to Dulcimer in Chorlton for a gig but wanted to get there a little early for a little food. The menu here is simple, with only a few things on there, including; A ploughmans, toasties, homemade pork pie and a verity of bar snacks. They also do a traditional BBQ on a Saturday. I like the simplicity of the menu, surly people would prefer fewer options but the food to be of a high quality then a vast menu and it be rather bland. All of the tables downstairs were taken so I headed straight upstairs and picked out a table. I was feeling greedy and ordered a Ploughmans and a bowl of chilli. The girl behind the bar had a rare skill for Manchester, and having worked in a pub appreciate it. She can serve MORE THAN ONE PERSON AT A TIME. Easy but you never see it and I dont know why. She was also attentive and polite, good start. Fifteen minutes later I tucked into the homemade chilli. Loved it! It was full of flavour, spice and the texture was rich. Further good news is that it is a fiver. A huge bowl of chilli for 5 English pounds, tell me where else you get that value. So the Ploughmans… the main reason I wanted this was that it comes with a homemade pork pie, homemade piccalilli and a ruby ale chutney. I did not really like any of these elements, however I know many will, do not that put you off, they were just a little too strong for me. The piccalilli was rich but too large to spread onto my bread, while the pie left a lingering taste in my mouth. The cheese came in reasonable sizes (oh and the pie is filling, cant fault that). What did I want then? An extra chutney and cheese to add a little more verity, I would even pay a little more for this to happen. A downside to the service was that it took quite a while for my plate to be taken away. This was rather disappointing. Later on the venue was packed out for the gig, which I rather enjoyed. Seriously, the chilli is fantastic. Food- Chilli- 5/5 Ploughmans 3/5Value Chilli- 5/5 Ploughmans 3/5Service- 4/5Atmosphere- 4/5
