Ended up here as a surprise dinner on my birthday, and was not disappointed at all. Modestly decorated fine-dine restaurant, though more of a tapas bar. The table in front of us housed a 12 month ham piece (or so I think). The place is ideal for a romantic date, or a big gathering as the more you share, the more fun it is with tapas.First of all we ordered a jug of sangria, and it was fresh and refreshing. From the tapas menu, we orderedBatatas Bravas (spicy potatoes), Calamares fritoes (fried squid rings), mini Espetada, Chuletitas de Cordero (grilled lamb lollipops), cod in Bchamel sauce, and fried fish cakes. The potatoes were nice and perfect, the squid rings were huge (pic below). The espetadas were chicken and chorizo and were really tasty. The cod was cheesy and smooth. Just take care with the olives, they are not pitted. The fish cakes were the best. Crispy outside, soft inside. Filled with a combination of prawns and fish filling. The lamb chops were too rare for our taste (or teeth), but the chef was kind enough to redo it to complete done for us. The combination of mint and honey on the lamb was awesome (now). We found the service a little disorganised. Though there was not much delay in serving food, the bill came a lot late.Overall, a good place to go but might be heavy on the pocket.
Wanderer in Chorlton. Everything was exquisitely cooked and flavored from the steak to the spinach. They had interesting combinations of food; quail egg with beans and black pudding on pineapple were some of the starters I tried. We ordered them to be adventurous and were half surprised to discover they were also delicious. The tapas portions were generous and in retrospect I could have stopped there. You could have rolled me home after that meal. The wine they recommended was also beautiful. I’ll definitely be going back.
